Here's an adorable pup in the Humane Society of Adams County in Peebles, Ohio. Shelter thinks possible dane mix? Poor girl has not had such a good life so far... skinny and possibly chained...

His owners apparently surrendered him because he is blind. I know a girl who volunteers at this shelter and she said she is an absolute sweetheart & is really beautiful. She is trying to get me better pictures of him.

Please help network this cutie to help her find rescue!

This blind girl was dumped at the Adams County Dog Pound. From the gray mark around her neck it appears she has been on a chain. She is so skinny. She responds to a gentle touch and soft voice. Please contact us to rescue this precious pup. approx. 6-7 months old.

XXX URGENT!! NY, Long Island Senior Blind Chi

Long Island NY - 10 year old blind chi mix saved from the bay needs rescue or fo...ster ASAP.

On Wednesday, my friend Danielle saw this little dog running toward the water.

The dog ran right off the dock and into the bay. She dove in after him and brought him to her vet.

He is estimated to be about 10 years old, weighs 20 lbs, is blind and is high heart worm positive.

So far his vet bill is $500. Attempts to find the owner have been fruitless and now he must leave the

vet by 5 pm today. He is very scared and reacts aggressively out of fear.

The vet techs say that once he warms up to someone and is used to them, he lets them handle him

The local municipal shelter was contacted and have no reports of a missing dog matching his description.

They said if the dog is brought there, he will be euthanized once the stray hold is up due to his fear.

This is Shaggy! Shaggy is five years young and not neutered YET, but we are searching a "furever" home for this wonderful dog! He was scheduled to be euthanized very soon, so we put him in boarding at a local vet's office since we are SO FULL with doggies right now! Shaggy can be neutered upon receiving a good adoption application for him for a small fee of $50. He is also wormed, up to date on all his vaccine including rabies. Has sign of early cataracts, but nothing that impairs him at ALL! This adorable, gentle boy weighs around 60 pounds and is obviously full grown. His photo's show him shaved down, he was a matted mess when he entered the shelter! He will get the long, beautiful coat of a Giant Schnauzer as we believe he may be purebred. XXX URGENT!! IL, Chicago "Jazzie" Senior with Cataracts

owner had emergency heart surgery, can not care for Jazzie.

just because her owner is elderly and ill!Please pass on to all you know. This is so sad. Owner of this dog went into hospital for emergency heart surgery several weeks ago and is still hooked up to machines and not fully conscious. Doctors have not given up hope but even if she does wake up, she will need much rehab. The boarder can no longer keep her pets. We have found placements for two of her pets but poor, sweet Jazzie still needs a home. If she is not rehomed by the 28th they are going to bring her to the shelter. Even though she is still in good health and full of energy, her age makes it not likely for her to be adopted from the shelter.

Jazzie (Jasmine) is 13 years old, crate trained, housebroken, up to date on her shots, has cataracts but doesn’t let it stop her, still sees pretty good and is very energetic. Approximately 30 pounds, definitely on the small side and loves to be in your lap! Her owner is 82 years old and went in for emergency heart surgery. Unfortunately, she cannot return home and will not be able to care for pets any longer. Jazzie is a wonderful dog who truly deserves a good home. She has been with a boarder in Mokena whom her owner knows and trusts for 3 weeks and time is running out. If we don’t find her a home soon she will have to go to PAWS.

Jazzie is spayed and is great with other dogs. Boarder thought it would probably be best if she was not around small kids as they might move too fast and if she doesn’t see them coming due to cataracts she might snap because they startle her. She comes with a leash and crate. If Jazzie finds a home locally (Chicago area), I will offer a free private training session to help her transition to her new home.

Check out this beautiful Border Collie. She was owner surrendered because she go...t into fights with other female border collies on the ranch. She was picked up from a breeder as the breeder was going to kill her because Faith is deaf. She is extremely sweet with people and seemed to be okay with a male German Shepherd we had in the room with her. Faith is about 2 years old and spayed. She is also "trained" according to the owners. Faith needs an experienced owner (with deaf dogs) and be an only pet or with another male. Call the shelter if you are interested in fostering, adopting or rescuing this beautiful gal.

12-12-11: FOUR DAYS ONLY AND COUNTING! MUST BE OUT BY THIS WEEKEND!

Poor Bruno has had such a hard life. He was rescued from death row in Miami Dade Animal Services 6 years ago and adopted to a family who checked out perfectly in every way imaginable. We were so excited he’d found his forever home. Instead they starved and neglected Bruno so horribly that he was skin & bones, bleeding from head to foot (he had to be shaved naked to treat his skin wounds) with ear infections so severe his ear canals had to be surgically removed or he’d die from the infection reaching his brain. Bruno thankfully lived, recovered beautifully, but because of their abuse is deaf as a result.

Bruno stayed with his original rescuer for two years more living in her tiny bathroom or/outside because that is all she could provide. He finally found what we again thought was his forever home three years ago with a semi-retired couple who adored him. We were absolutely shocked when they called a month ago to tell us they made the decision to sell their house and were moving in 2-4 months and couldn't take Bruno with them.
Last night they informed us Bruno must be out this weekend!

We are sick for poor Bruno and have nowhere for him to go. He is nine years old and as sweet & loveable as ever. He follows his human everywhere – not realizing his loyalty is sadly NOT returned. Bruno gets along with female dogs, but probably not good to live with males. Even though he lost his hearing , he still is a great watchdog: he feels movement and hears some sound via bones in his ears. (Just try opening the refrigerator if he’s awake!) We just can't wrap our heads around the fact that this couple who comitted to this beautiful boy and sent nothing but wonderful updates for the past three years, can just put him out to pasture. Where do they think he will go? Their parting words to us about Bruno: " thanks for letting us be part of Bruno's life. Wish things were different and we could keep him".
It doesn't have to be this way. Please don't let Bruno's life end at 9 years old ,after so few years of happiness, in a kill shelter. He needs to go to a stable, responsible , committed home where he will spend his golden years with a loving REAL forever family. A volunteer writes: It took me a few days before I was able to take Tanya out for a walk. She was extremely timid or may be she was just too exhausted from her stay on the streets and needed to rest. Today was the day. Tanya came out of her kennel. No question asked.... She is quite a big girl at 105 lbs. A good diet and plenty of exercise are in order .She has a beautiful dark brown coat, shiny and silky. Her eyes are clear and copper in color. Tanya is quite a gorgeous 9 year old Labrador Retriever, very gentle and easy going. She seems well behaved with people, other dogs and in general. She walks nicely on the leash, climbs stairs, seems to be housetrained and sits on command. Her gaze is very soft and her tail is happily wagging when she is being talked to. Tanya is truly a good girl. She needs some help in the fitness area but certainly not in being a pet. Tanya, without any doubt, will make an awesome companion. Tanya is at the Manhattan Care Center. Town of Hempstead, Long Island (Now in Municipal Town Shelter )***ROMEO & Juliet Found Tied to a Tree. Abandoned!!!

These two beauties were brought in together as strays by an Animal Control Officer. They were found tied to the same tree. No one has come for them. Romeo is an absolute love whose tail NEVER stops wagging and Juliet is a bundle of nerves until she sees Romeo. Then she is confident going into to play bow and chasing Romeo all over the director's office. These are going to be dogs who do NOT do well without one another. They have obviously been with each other their whole lives, although Juliet is much younger than Romeo, she has not known life without him. Please consider giving these 2 their forever home TOGETHER. Apart, Juliet will surely crumble and I do believe Romeo will be heartbroken. Can a group take these 2 together and ensure they are adopted together? Or can someone open their homes for these 2? They are more bonded than any two dogs I have ever seen and it is heartbreaking to think they may not be able to get out of here. Please help them. Please cross post and email blast these guys. We really want these two to leave this shelter... together would be a true miracle!!!

Iceman is a white English Bulldog. He is deaf. Iceman is great with little kids and all different kinds of animals (cats, dogs, reptiles, etc.). He loves women but not too great with men/teenage boys (unless he grows-up with them). Potty trained, loves to follow you around the house, loves to play with empty water bottles, can play rough, is cage aggressive but will go in his crate, and will protect in the home.

Iceman is 4 yrs old. Neutered and up to date on all shots. When i got him from his 3rd owner i wasnt with my husband. Then we decided to get back together. Iceman is not fond of men. Johnny Ray is a super sweet boy who was picked up as a stray and and brought to a shelter where his time was soon up. Because he is deaf he needs a special home with someone willing to continue working with him on sign language. He knows several basic commands and he is very alert and watches you intently, but it takes longer to train deaf dogs. He is not potty trained to the point that he will ask to go out, so you have to be on top of getting him outside regularly and praising him enthusiastically.

He is a very unique looking boy, with a wrinkly forehead and compact body, lab-like ears and a cute stub tail he wags and wags when he's excited. He has a large scar on his right side that he came to us with so we don't know what caused it. 50 pounds sounds large but he's short and is actually a really nice size. He is absolutely adorable and so sweet! He loves people, is great with other dogs, and is OK with cats as well but will try to play with them if he doesn't have dogs to play with or enough exercise. He is young and very playful and needs to get his energy out. He loves laser pointers and will chase them nonstop - he never gets sick of it!

Johnny Ray is a total cuddle bug - he loves sleeping with you and will curl up close. You would think a deaf dog would be easily spooked but he isn't jumpy at all. He doesn't jump up on people (counters are another story) and he isn't a licky dog at all. He also loves going to the dog park and is great with other dogs there. He sticks pretty close to you.

JR either lived with a herding dog or has some herding dog in him as he circles quite a bit - he'll sometimes do tight circles around my other dogs or go in big circles. At my friend's house where there was a pool he ran around the pool in circles a lot of the time, switching directions from time to time or stopping to be petted.

He would do best in a home with other dogs, and he also gets very attached to people and would do best with someone who works from home or is home much of the time. He likes to know where his person is at all times and can get anxious if he doesn't, so he would be fine in an apartment or condo as long as he got plenty of exercise. He is crate trained and should be crated when no one's home as he is very curious and gets into stuff.

JR makes some funny noises and talks to you a lot. He loves riding in the car and not only doesn't mind baths but will jump in the bathtub even when it's not bath time! He is an absolute doll with a heart of gold.

His foster has a friend who not only is a professional American Sign Language interpreter but who also has a deaf dog. She has offered to give a free training session to his adopter. Again, he needs a home where people are willing to continue his training. Deaf dogs can also be trained using vibrating collars (think of a cell phone or pager, not a shock collar). They can absolutely communicate with you but need the training and follow through to really thrive.

DO NOT call and say you are adopting unless you truly intend on physically going to the shelter to adopt the dog. It ties up phones lines and is a waste of the staff's time to explain the adoption procedure over the phone for someone who is purposely not going to show up. They need every free second of their time to answer calls, assist actual adopters, process intakes, and care for the animals. More importantly, they will note the dog’s file that an adopter is en route which will prevent an actual adopter from saving the dog. This is considered a "fake adoption" hold and that is how dogs fall through the cracks and end up being killed.

DO NOT call and say you are adopting unless you truly intend on physically going to the shelter to adopt the dog. It ties up phones lines and is a waste of the staff's time to explain the adoption procedure over the phone for someone who is purposely not going to show up. They need every free second of their time to answer calls, assist actual adopters, process intakes, and care for the animals. More importantly, they will note the dog’s file that an adopter is en route which will prevent an actual adopter from saving the dog. This is considered a "fake adoption" hold and that is how dogs fall through the cracks and end up being killed.

I went this afternoon to evaluate Lady and Bandit. They are two very sweet kids (approx 5 weeks old the week before Xmas) with lots of unspent energy, they've obviously not had the amount of time spent with them needed! :((
Lady, is a red merle and the smaller (slightly) approx. 25 lbs. Her vision is
fairly good but limited. Her hearing is another story. I'd say she probably only has about 10% hearing if that near as we could tell.
Bandit, is almost 100% white except one small black smudge on his left side. He weighs about 28 lbs. His vision appears to be more limited than Lady's about 50%. He wasn't running into anything but sticks close to his sister or a person and sniffs out a treat. I believe he has more hearing than his sister as he appears to respond to calling his name loudly where Lady didn't.
Bandit appears to have something wrong in his hind end but I'm not sure what. He has a funny walk. I have a girl with severe hip dysplasia in both hips and he doesn't walk anything like her. Its kind of like he's swinging his hips if that makes any sense? Yet his legs seem stay close together as he walks.
Both pups are very, very friendly, sweet and loving. They just do NOT get the attention and exercise needed. They are being kept on an enclosed back porch and taken outside whenever the notion hits the owners. She said Lady is broke to newspaper "all by herself" so they've never attempted to house break them.
These two pups have been brought to the shelter more than once by AC as they dig out of the fenced backyard because they are BORED!!! The last time the shelter director had to talk the owners into taking them back home because they were so full and they would help them find a rescue for them. According to the shelter they are completely unvetted but the owner told me they had their shots, yet I think she was bsing me.

Vet/Medical Info: Trevor's current vet recently passed away so we have been unable to get recent records. We did contact his previous vet who was able to tell us he was neutered, but not by them. They last saw him in 2009. At that time he tested negative for heartworm.

Owner Info: DOB 8/22/2004. Trevor's current owner rescued him four years ago from a puppy mill. She was able to take care of him at that time, but lost her job. With her current job she is no longer able to provide the care that he needs. She works very long hours now and he needs more care than she can provide. She has had to move into an affordable apartment and it has carpet, Trevor has accidents and the landlord will not agree to let her keep him, she is also no longer able to afford the medical care that he needs. He has dry eye syndrome. He only requires drops at this point, but the vet says that it will worsen over time. He is an indoor dog who is crated, he is not housebroken but is leash trained. He is an outgoing boy who is good with women, teenagers, other dogs and small animals. Trevor can be a little aggressive around food, he will growl at other animals. He adapts well to new situations if he has time and attention. She has worked extensively with him on house training, he is fine if someone is able to take him out about every 5-6 hours. He is not able to hold it in the crate longer than that. He has a low IQ due to being neglected so he needs someone who is patient and kind. He responds very well to positive reinforcement and treats. He also has terrible storm anxiety. He has the sweetest personality and is very loving. He is a lap dog and wants to be with you wherever you are. He sleeps in his bed next to his owners and is very submissive. This is very difficult as Trevor is very much loved but they are no longer able to meet his needs and it is now unfair to him.

Poor Akira has found herself abandoned and all alone at the shelter. Imagine how confused and frightened she must be after living 10+ years with her family. It seems Akira's master moved out of the home and left her with his parents. They could no longer take care of her as they have dogs of their own so they brought her to the shelter. Akira gets along with other dogs and cats. She does not due well with children due to her age, limited vision and hearing and painful hips. Vet/Medical Info: Yoda is neutered and his rabies is good until 5/3/13. All other vaccinations are due now. When last tested he was heartworm negative.

Owner Info: Yoda is a victim of divorce, his owner is moving at the end of January and she can't have pets where she is going, it is a hardship situation. Yoda has to be placed before she moves. They rescued Yoda when he was about one, not really an organized rescue, it was from a girl who took on fosters. Yoda is an indoor dog with the run of the house, he is housebroken and leash trained. He is an outgoing boy, great with people and children of all ages and good with female dogs and cats. He tends to get in other male dogs faces and doesn't seem to realise his size. Yoda just recently went blind in both eyes, not sure of reason, just happened in the past few months. He needs some dental work done as his teeth are not great and he has a hernia from where he was neutered, but vet said it was nothing threatening, just kind of pokes out. He's very sweet and he is a lap dog - cuddly - loves to be in your arms!

There is a 10 year old boston terrier at the Halifax humane society in Daytona Beach, Fl. He has been there since Jan. 6. His name is Lucky. They told me his owner died and someone brought him there and he is going blind. I spent some time with him outside, walking him on a leash. I'm afraid he will be euthanized if no one adopts him. I'm not sure how long they wait. They are not a no kill shelter. I'm not sure if you can help him, but I wanted someone to be aware of him. Thank you.

Josie is old, mostly deaf, nearly blind, arthritic and she has a skin condition. She is also just about the sweetest dog you'd ever want to know. She needs a home with people who will adore her and be kind to her, and in return, she will give you all the love in her heart.
Josie is nearly blind, and pretty deaf. She is arthritic. She has bald spots. And she is one of the dearest dogs you'd ever want to meet. Martel found her stuck in a briar patch on Raymond Hill Road, where she'd been crying out for hours.

When Josie got to the shelter, Martel says, all she did was eat and sleep, for days. Now, she is a little more active, but still, she is quiet and calm. "She loves her bed," Martel says.

And she might not be as old as she appears. Her teeth look like the teeth of a dog much younger than Josie appears to be. But there's no telling.

Josie needs a home where she can live out her days with people who will care for her, be patient with her, and give her all she needs. In return, this dear old blind dog will give you a heart full of love.

Poor thing...she is about 10 months old and it looks like Molly is the victim of some kind of horrible abuse. She has a huge indentation in her skull and she has lost most of her sight. A volunteer writes: Roxy is an older girl who is still up and about. As I appeared in her door, she got up immediately and was ready to be leashed. She even seemed to have a smile on her face... Roxy is rather thin, she is a "petite" Rottweiler at 62lbs. Her coat is shiny. Her eyes are reasonably clear under some discharge that is being treated at the shelter. Roxy walks well on the leash and seems housetrained. Other dogs met on the way do not seem to bother her. She is quite a friendly character who sits next to me on the side walk. She seems so happy to be petted, looking at me with soft eyes. Being at the end of our time together and confident that she liked me, I cleaned her eyes with wet gauze. Roxy did not mind at all...Roxy is still very much a lively female. She would make a sweet and friendly companion for a Rottweiler lover. Roxy is at the Manhattan Care Center hoping to leave soon with her new forever family.

Owner Info: Tanja's owner lost her job early this year and due to rough financial times, they are struggling to get back on their feet with their two children. She would like to provide Tanja a home where she will receive more attention and love. Tanja was rescued from a puppy mill. Tanja has never shown aggression but she does growl while eating, possibly because she is blind and does not know what sounds are around her. At two and half years old she lost both of her eyes, they fell out one at a time but were both unsalvageable, she had both of them completely removed. They have moved house three times since she lost her vision and she has always adapted very easily to new surroundings. She is an inside dog, confined to one area of the house. She is housebroken but not leash trained. She is great with people and children of all ages, other dogs, cats and small animals. Tanja is the happiest dog her owner has ever seen, even after losing her sight her tail wags all the time and she's always looking to play.

Elvis is a male white boxer/pitbull mix located in Memphis, TN. He is approx 5 yrs old and has been with me and my family since he was rescued. He is neutered and has received regular medical care/checkups since he was a puppy. He is 100% deaf since birth and understands some hand commands like sit and stay. The distressing thing about the situation is that my children have grown and moved out and my job requires constant travel and now relocation. I have struggled with this decision for so long because my love for him is immense but I know that I am causing him distress by being gone so much. He is not demanding but gets sad when left alone.

He was found and rescued by my parents - tied to a tree, no food and water or human contact and left for dead. Therefore he gets upset when left alone for long periods of time because I assume he feels like I may not come back. He is loving and has never hurt a child but I would not recommend him live with small children.

The calmer the household the better because he likes to chase what is running. He LOVES to play frisbee and fetch his tennis ball and he is loyal and protective of his surroundings but not overly protective. He has a doggie door in which he lets himself in and out of to use the bathroom - he is completely potty trained. He loves loves loves other dogs of any shape or size and was raised with a small chihuahua which he loved. However - he hates cats. I have tried and tried - even brought a small kitten home to him and after 6 months we gave up. His instinct against them is just too strong.

His favorite things are to go to the dog park where you can allow him to run free without worry, riding in the car or the back of a truck (really loves that) and going to the beach and boats. He does not dig or chew anything other than his chew bones. He loves baths and sits for hours looking out windows. He knows everything that goes on in our cove and I have to leave all the shades up a few inches so he can go from window to window. He is kennel trained and all you have to do is point to the kennel and he will go in immediately.

He sounds perfect and pretty much is but of course there are a few issues. He is an indoor dog, period, end of story. He will go outside all day if you are with him but if you leave him outside and shut a door - he is going to do anything he can to get back to where you are. He does not like doors closed between you and him. He literally goes to the restroom with me and sits by the tub nightly with me when I am home. He makes every step I do pretty much. I correct his bad behavior with a shock collar. Some may disagree with this but trust me - it is a Godsend. If he misbehaves all I have to do is put it on him - very seldom do I have to actually use it. I only use it for refusal to stay outside for example when we have company. The other issue is that he thinks that if you are eating - he is suppose to be eating and he will hit his bowls across the floor until something is put in them. He is not given table scraps very often and he is not a morning eater. He likes to snack throughout the day.

If out in the sun for long periods - I out spray sunscreen on him for he is solid white and can burn. He needs to be kept AWAY from cars - he will chase them and has no concept of danger - he will run right in front of a vehicle - usually because he wants inside of it. If you like to sleep with him he is a great snuggler but his feelings are not hurt if you prefer he sleep in his kennel. He can not swim in deep water but he loves to play in shallow water. Deep water terrifies him. Any other questions I will be glad to answer. I am not happy about this decision but I know it is the unselfish thing to do because this beautiful gentle animal is a true friend and his best option is someone who is with him frequently.

A volunteer writes: There are dogs you fall in love with simply because they are older, have given their hearts to their families and then find themselves at a shelter. Charley is such a dog. He was found tied to a fence. He seems to have been a loved family pet; his coat is thick and shiny, he is kind, sweet and gentle. And, he is bewildered. He was happy to have found a friend in me, happy to go for a walk on a very chilly day. His eyes are cloudy with cataracts and every once in a while he would stumble, usually on a sidewalk curb. Other than that he did wonderfully. His leash skills are excellent, he never pulls and he responds to direction perfectly. Charley may have some special health concerns, our vet can provide more information on that. What I can tell you however, is that no animal is more deserving of a warm, soft bed and a family to love him than Charley. He is the noblest of dogs who deserves to spend his life in the circle of family love. He is neutered and ready to find a new place to lay his head. He will be eternally grateful as will those of us who know him. Ask to meet Charley today.

DO NOT call and say you are adopting unless you truly intend on physically going to the shelter to adopt the dog. It ties up phones lines and is a waste of the staff's time to explain the adoption procedure over the phone for someone who is purposely not going to show up. They need every free second of their time to answer calls, assist actual adopters, process intakes, and care for the animals. More importantly, they will note the dog’s file that an adopter is en route which will prevent an actual adopter from saving the dog. This is considered a "fake adoption" hold and that is how dogs fall through the cracks and end up being killed.

Today I met this terribly sad ACD who was slowly turning in the small animal control cell, clearly not understanding
why this small space (with dogs barking loudly all around) was all that could be called home.
This blind Blue Heeler is first on the euthanasia list and a heartbroken volunteer introduced me.
The heeler is probably getting on in years but is still a handsome example of the breed.
Poor baby is VERY confused and in a small cell at a rural pound here in my county.

Please, please, is there anything you can do??? I have attached a bad picture but with the lighting and cell door,
it was the best I could do. They said they had planned to go ahead and euth but if I had any ideas they would hold off
for a little....can you help? BEGGING!

Liza is in foster through the shelter, but the current foster cannot keep her much longer.

I hope you remember Liza from So Salt Lake Animal Shelter. Her time was up at the shelter and she desperately needed to find a foster home. AND SHE DID! A home environment agrees with her and she has improved significantly. She will do well with children 4 years and older, is house broken and knows her basic command...s. Liza actually seems to ignore cats and chickens. She will need proper introductions for her canine friends, it is believed she was reacting negatively at the shelter due to medical issues and kennel stress. She qualifies for the Good Canine Citizenship classes in SLC and could be fostered while she went to the classes.

1/23 Wanted to share more information about wonderful Stevie...

He runs into things at the shelter and the other dogs do startle him. He is not aggressive in any way, he just turns around and goes the other way. They're keeping him in quarantine right now where it's quieter and less frightening for him. He appears housebroken, but prefers to go on grass. They have a concrete area and he did not potty there until he figured out the other dogs did too.... he does try to keep his kennel clean. Some volunteers were brushing him and he loved every minute of it, and even rolled over so they could brush his belly! He appears to be younger than 12, but this has not been verified by a vet. He's a very laid back, very sweet guy!

While calling the Kern River Valley Shelter to check on another dog (who has been rescued), I leaned about this sweet boxer pup that is in need of rescue. Deidra at the Kern River Shelter is begging for help for this sweet boy who is deaf.

Harley is a 9 month old deaf, white male boxer pup that is AMAZING and desperately needs adopter or rescue.
Harley was surrendered by his owner, he came in very skinny, but has gained weight since being at the shelter. Ray Ray is a 5 - 6 year old boy who was found all alone in a field with nothing but a collar and chain on. Animal Control took him directly to the vet to be examined.
Ray Ray is completely blind and the vets are assuming he was born that way. He's very sweet and although he's very confused being in a shelter where everything smells different than what he's used to he is adjusting very well and taking it in stride. He has a VERY SWEET AND GENTLE DISPOSITION, SO EASY GOING !!
Breaks your heart to see a blind dog chained to something with no way to defend it's self.. Our vet said he would do the surgery to remove Ray Ray's 2 growths, one on his back, one on his side for no charge since he was very taken back of how sweet Ray Ray is and desperately wants him to find a home.

This is Reilly. Reilly is a very special puppy. He's about nine months old and he is deaf. He is a purebred Border Collie. He is mostly white with black spots with beautiful ice blue eyes and weighs about 30 pounds. He is neutered and has all of his shots up to date, including rabies. He was originally purchased as a purebred for $250 but I ended up adopting him from someone that just did not have the space to let him run and to use all his energy during the day. Now, unfortunately, I do not have the time to dedicate to training and spending time with him like I want to. He does know a bit of sign language and is extremely smart. He has the potential to be an absolutely fabulous dog if only he could get the dedication of time and training he deserves.

He does fairly well with other dogs his own size but he is easily imitated by any dog larger than him. He is also a bit timid if you sneak up behind him. Since he is deaf, it's easier for him to react more calmly when he is approached from the front where he can see you. He has an incredible sense of smell and loves to play in the water. He does somewhat ok with other dogs but a home where he is the center of attention would probably be the ideal setting for him until he is fully trained or acquainted with you. He likes to play with cats too. He plays a little bit rougher with my cats but that's only because they annoy him. He does not take well to children. I'm not sure what it is about kids but he just does not feel comfortable with them. He is trained to sleep in his kennel at night with blankets.Reilly does try to be a bit of a lap dog. He loves to sit with you on the couch and get his belly rubbed. He loves bones, sticks, tug of war rope ties. . . you name it! This is not what I wanted but I'm doing I believe what is best for him and that's to get the attention and love he deserves. I will be extremely cautious about who he goes to as he is very important to me. He will need a fenced in yard and he can jump fairly high and also dig very well. He is on a leash 100% of the time when not within a fenced in yard.

UPDATE: 1/19:I took Hazel to the Boulder Valley Humane Society yesterday and gave them a thorough history on her. I told them I had listed her with your organization as well.
Today, they called me and left a voice mail stating that because of her hearing impairment and the history of snapping at very young children (3 and under) when startled, guarding of rawhides, they would NOT be able to put her up for adoption and they have only given me to the end of business day tomorrow to reclaim her before they euthanize her. This shocks and saddens me. What does the fact that she is deaf have to do with her being adoptable or not? and...she does fine with my kids and even with the toddler kids she has never broken skin and as far as the rawhide issue, just dont give her rawhides.
I am going to call tomorrow and see if they would be willing to give her more time as she has been listed with you. desperate situation. I dont know if I can take her back at this point, it was hard enough to do yesterday, I was a wreck. but I cant handle her shedding alone anymore and thought I was giving her the opportunity for a better life.
My name is Cinda. I live in Lafayette Colorado. I have a deaf dog named Hazel who needs a new home. I adopted Hazel from the humane society over two years ago. She is a little over four years old. She was in the shelter because her owner had died. Hazel is a super sweet dog. She has presumably been deaf since birth.

She knows the following signs:

· Come Here (her favorite!)
· GO
· She can catch ANY treat in her mouth, she’s really good.

I am a night shift worker, sleep during the day. Hazel is a good, good doggie. She is content to stay in the house. Can be left alone for hours and never go potty in the house. She LOVES to go for walks and becomes so excited when she sees her leash that she literally trembles in anticipation. I am only 4’ 11” so I use a Gentle Leader collar so that my strength is not a factor. Before I starting using that, Hazel would drag me all over the place, especially if she saw a rabbit or squirrel. Also she doesn’t quite know how to act when she encounters another dog, she makes me nervous, so the gentle leader makes me feel much more in control and confident as she doesn’t even attempt to go after anyone or anything as long as she’s wearing it. Great invention.

Hazel absolutely loves my three children and they love her.
Hazel is spayed and micro chipped. She is up to date on all her vaccinations.

The reason I am looking to rehome Hazel is because of the constant year round shedding. I have purchased a $20 shedding tool that removes a lot of hair and brush her at least every other day. I have to vacuum daily. Although she has a very nice orthopedic dog bed, she waits until we go to bed and sneaks up on the couch at night. She ALWAYS gets caught of course, because she can’t hear us when we wake up and doesn’t know we are standing over her disapprovingly until we tap her and sign for her to get off.

Hazel gets along well with my teeny long haired Chihuahua and they play constantly and even though Hazel is much much bigger than my little dog, she has never hurt him. I also have a cat who Hazel doesn’t bother.

Anyway, my youngest son has asthma and it is getting to be a full time job trying to stay on top of the shedding situation. Also, my ex husband is making a big deal of the shedding, claiming that it is causing my son to have more frequent asthma related illnesses.

Another reason that I have come to this difficult decision is that I have family in New Mexico and when I go to visit them, I take the little dog with me because he’s so portable and allowed in hotel rooms as well as welcome at my families houses. I have tried leaving Hazel with friends while I’m gone but she does NOT respond well to this. I don’t know if she is just so stressed out that we have left her or mad at us or what, but she is very naughty. She counter surfs and eats food off the counters (she never does this at home, I could and do leave food out all the time and she never attempts to steal it even if we are not home), also she would come in from outside and immediately pee and poop IN THE HOUSE!!!!!. I was so embarrassed. I cannot afford to board her while I am out of state and I would like to visit my family more often as I have a new granddaughter in NM.

I just think that Hazel would do better with a couple or family that could share in her care. I am feeling very overwhelmed. I feel like it is all on me to walk her, brush her, feed her, bathe her, and vacuum vacuum vacuum

I know that Hazel would not do well in a shelter environment and my heart breaks just thinking of it, but I am in an urgent situation. I worry if she will get adopted because of her deafness, and if she does, if the family would recognize how to deal with it. Also, I worry that she would act like she did when I left her with my friends and they would think she is a bad dog and return her. I really feel that she needs some patience and understanding and lots of love. She is a very loving affectionate gentle dog. And very well behaved, completely house trained.

I live in a tri level town home and I keep baby gates up going to the downstairs and upstairs in order to keep the bedrooms hair free and I would recommend confining her in this way especially at first in her new home.

Please help Nikki....he is a sweet senior Pomeranian who recently lost his eyesight due to untreated, undiagnosed diabetes. Obviously the victim of neglect he has spent most if his life in a bathroom! It' s amazing to me that all of this little guys hardships have not affected his personality at all! I had the pleasure of taking him to the vet where I spent three hours getting to know this happy, loving and trusting soul. After being poked and prodded and catheterized he was still a joy. He enjoyed every minute of being in my lap and having belly rubs in the floor. What a doll.! Despite our efforts, that night Nikki lost his eyesight. Nikki is 8+ years old, housebroken,neutered,and totally blind. He needs daily insulin shots and should be in a home where he can learn his way around, a place where things are not moved around a lot. His foster mom,says he is a very sweet , well behaved boy, but she has a two year old with lots of toys that are constantly changing places and making it difficult for Nikki to move about safely. His foster mom's voice guides him around. This very special boy deserves a very special home. He has so much love to give. Can we find someone to love him back?

Vet/Medical Info: Howie is too young to be tested for HW or to be neutered. He was treated for parasite infestation and given his basic shots. He has some sort of brain injury. If he was born that way he may inprove but if it is due to trauma he will not likely get any better, not enough is known about the dog to say.

Owner Info: Howie was found him in the middle of the highway on 1/15/2012, he was not moving - the people took him to the vet. Howie is blind, the lady that is caring for him does not have a job and wants this little guy to be taken care of. It is suspected Howie may be blind due to head trauma. Not too much is known about this little guy. He eats very well, he is not really stable on his feet. Seems to have some hearing, but not very much. Vet thinks perhaps he has been hit by a car. He has been wormed and had 1st round of vaccinations. He is currently on antibiotics and a steroid which he will finish in 5 days. Howie is currently an outdoor dog in an open space, no fenced in yard. He is not housebroken or leash trained (as most six week old puppies aren't). Howie is good with other small animals.

Remember these two boys? Last week Gina saw them on a post that went around and jumped through hurdles to get them and one other girl out of a kill shelter in Clewiston FL. All fosters were in place with a donor for Mr. Batman's HW treatment. Unfortunately, although two of the three dogs are headed for their forever homes this week, Mr. Batman, the pittie, is not so lucky. His foster family decided that they actually couldn't foster a dog at this time bc they have an ill dog in their home.

Mr. Batman is a one year old loving pup. He is blind in one eye and has HW. He is in temporary boarding in Vero Beach and is very sad bc his pal , Robin, left for his forever home.

"Baby" is a purebred Catahoula Leopard. She is still a puppy. Born BLIND and DEAF. She has not been spayed nor has she had her shots. She is very sweet and loves everybody. Unfortunately, due to her size and weight, the apartment complex I live in does not allow this size dog and has given me an eviction notice as of tomorrow. I am desperate to find a good home. I am prepared to transport her if necessary.
She is about 7 months old, sweet and very attached to humans. She is shy around other dogs but does not know about cats. Her behavior is a well grounded sweet puppy who loves everybody that comes to our house (kids as well), loves men and women. She has been house bound for the most part, and begins the night sleeping with my daughter and will come to my bed in the middle of the night. She will sit next to the bed in the a.m. until I wake up to feed her. She navigates around the house now that she knows the layout. She ALWAYS knows where we are and when somebody enters the room. Owner Info: DOB 10/18/2002. Bruno's owners are moving to Romania for around 7 years due to a job transfer. They will be leaving in Jan/Feb 2012 and would like for Bruno to be settled into a new home before they go. They rescued Bruno when he was around 2 months old from their local shelter. Bruno literally when blind overnight about a year ago, he was diagnosed with SARDS. Bruno is on a raw diet and takes Dinovite as a pet supplement. He is a bit weak in the back left leg due to an ACL injury 5 years ago. Bruno is good with kids, good with other dogs and cats, very friendly, goes up to people and smells them and then leaves them. He is an inside dog with the run of the house, he’s housebroken and leash trained. Bruno's family thought about taking him with them but have been advised that the transport would be too stressful for him. It was recommended to them by several people they not take him. Bruno is a wonderful family dog who thinks he is a lap dog and is faithful and loyal. He lets their 2 year old grandson climb on him and use him as a step to get on the couch.

Several years ago Denali wandered into someone’s back yard. His ears had been cut off in an apparent non-medical attempt at ear cropping. It turns out he was deaf as well.

Adoption attempts were unsuccessful, but a foster home was found and this eventually turned into a permanent home. Denali was living the good life with other dogs, cats, and a bunny rabbit. He loved to swim in the pool and jump in the morning shower with his new mom.
However, now he is suffering the unexpected tragedies of human life, including a divorce, unemployment, and a home foreclosure. Sadly, Denali must find a new home, and fast.
Denali did suffer some kind of back injury several years ago and had back/spinal surgery. He seems to have healed fine, but he can't hold it indefinitely, though it is possible this could improve with a change of food (I've seen improvements like this before).
Many of the details are foggy right now. I am still trying to gather all the facts, but don’t want to hold up networking him for a few details. I’ll get more info just as soon as I can.
Denali needs a new home, a foster home, or a rescue group to take him. For any or all of these, standard interview, home check, reference checks, and adoption contract will apply. He will not simply be handed over to someone else, no questions asked.
He is a pittie mix, probaby 5 - 7 yrs old., 70+ lbs, neutered. Good with other animals.

Look at handsome Apollo! Apollo is at the South Los Angeles Shelter in California and is looking for rescue... He is a shelter favorite who gets along with other dogs and loved his bath!

APOLLO [A1276976] is an unaltered male, brown brindle and white Mastiff and Pit Bull Terrier. He is about 7 years old. Weighs approximately 79 pounds. He has been at the shelter since Jan 10, 2012.

How we came to notice Apollo and decide to try and save him. I was walking the kennels when I noticed Apollo. It just broke my heart to see him covered in motor oil, skinny, covered in wounds, blind (cross-eyed), having trouble walking (stiff on his hind legs), and depressed. When his sad eyes met mine it was like you can see how much he has suffered. It was clear to me that Apollo has been through so much neglect and never loved or cared for. When I told another volunteer about Apollo we were convinced that we should network him in hopes that Apollo will pull at someone’s heart strings. Apollo could have been a junkyard dog all his life, or someone could have tried to use him as a bait dog. Apollo had his puppy hood taken away from him. What we do know is that he has had a tough 7 years of life yet, he is trusting, loving, sweet, and has a great temperament. Not only did he tug at our heart strings, but at many of South LA staff’s and volunteers!

I had one of our fabulous ACT help me temp test him and bathe him. We had Apollo tested with a Rottweiler mix. Since Apollo is blind, he relies on his nose and trusts his handler. He passed his dog test and towards the end of the test he wanted to play with the Rottweiler mix. Next, we bathed him and he was so well behaved. Staff and volunteers ended up helping us in bathing sweet Apollo. This was probably the first time ever that Apollo has ever had someone care about him! Along with his first bath, first good meal, warm bed, and being surrounded by people that showed him affection! Overall, Apollo has a great temperament. Apollo is in need of immediate rescue! Please help us save this sweet loving guy! He has stolen the hearts of SLA staff and volunteers! Apollo has UNTIL 01/19 BEFORE 4 P.M.!! BIG SLA favorite!

Oddball Oscar is an adorable deaf little wiener dog of about 9 years old who is desperate to find some one who will love him and understand him, for once! Oscar was surrendered by his owner's son because they could no longer care for him. It's true, Oscar is deaf and does have some cataracts, but that doesn't mean he is ready for the end! Sheesh!

This spunky guy has a lot of living to do and love to give. In fact, when you take Oscar for a walk, he trots along like a youngster, leaping up onto steps without a care in the world, ears flapping in the wind like flags. He really likes to go for walks and explore what is around him-typical inquisitive daschund! Oscar was tested with cats at the shelter and did pretty well, so he could probably live with a kitty if you have one at home. He also did OK with another little dog he met here, but please bring any resident pups you might have at home in with you to meet Oscar so that we can make sure it is a perfect match!
Oscar can be a little fussy over his food bowl, so we do recommend feeding him separately. We would also prefer that he go to a home without children (as they might freak him out with his hearing issue and impaired vision). An ideal place for this guy would be a nice calm home with adults who are pretty relaxed but do enjoy getting outside for some fresh and and sight seeing. 8-9 years old-hearing impaired, but shiny, friendly, and just LOVES people! Okay other dogs! Must be a 501c3 to pull from this shelter!

SC, Darlington "CeCe" Blind & Hearing Impaired Senior Shih Tzu

CeCe was dropped off at the Darlington shelter late November because her elderly... ill owners could no longer care for her. Poor CeCe is blind and hard of hearing. Her teeth were rotted but she came through surgery find. Her heart is good as is all her bloodwork. She's a 10 year old Shih Tzu. My personal wish for her is to get a home where her family can afford the surgery to remove one of her cataracts so she can see again. she's a quiet, loving dog but is lost here with all the foster dogs. She has been born into her last home so it was quite a shock that after 10 years and going blind she was given up and is in a strange place. CeCe weighs 8 lbs.
