DO NOT call the shelter and say you are adopting unless you truly intend on physically going to the shelter to adopt the dog. It ties up phones lines and is a waste of the staff's time to explain the adoption procedure over the phone for someone who is purposely not going to show up. They need every free second of their time to answer calls, assist actual adopters, process intakes, and care for the animals. More importantly, they will note the dog’s file that an adopter is en route which will prevent an actual adopter from saving the dog. This is considered a "fake adoption" hold and that is how dogs fall through the cracks and end up being killed.

My name is Julie Kelly. I work at The Dog Spot, a boarding and grooming facility in Salado, Texas. 2 weeks ago an elderly lady surrendered her Dachshund-cocker spaniel mix to us, She was diagnosed with terminal cancer and cannot take care of herself and the dog anymore. We have tried to re-home rusty over the last 2 weeks but he is a special situation. Rusty is 12 years old, partially blind, due to cataracts, and is going deaf. Other that those things he has a clear bill of health and is on no medications.

With him being so old we have no luck at all finding him a home to live out the rest of his life, we have had him in our facility for 2 weeks and cannot keep him long term. We try to give him attention between working - he is left in his boarding room most of the time. We need to find him a home/foster to live out his life, he is a super sweet mild mannered dog who gets along with other dogs and cats. Again he has NO medications and is healthy. The owner signed a ownership surrender to us, we could really use your help. I hope to hear from you soon,
