PTS DATE ANYTIME!!! GA, Jonesboro Blind Shepherd X **Adorable**

This is an adorable, blind, mixed breed dog, not believed to be old, the owner had to go into a nursing home- please help - needs to find forever home or rescue NOW!! If you find you cannot help please share this information quickly. Thank you.

This little guy weighs approximately 25 lbs. Very good temperment. Gets along well with other dogs, people, etc. Don't know how he is with cats as he hasn't been with any at the shelter. He gets around well. Per vet, approximately 3 yrs old. Very friendly, housebroken, not sure if he is neutered but can find out.
Although this a rescue friendly high intake shelter they euthanize for space every Tuesday and Friday morning. We do not know if this dog is on the Euth List for tomorrow but he has been there a week or more, so he must be URGENT!!!

Please contact the shelter or the person(s) listed below for info and help.

SAFE!! XXX URGENT!!! OR, Portland "Joey" Blind Dachshund **Adorable**

Joey

Joey is an adorable, even if overweight, blind Dachshund, who his owners believe may also be a diabetic. He needs to find a new forever home or rescue ASAP!!! Please help! If you find you are not in a position to help at the moment, please pass his information on. Thank you. His current "Grandma" writes the following.

Portland, OR - Blind Overweight Dachshund being surrendered - please help me find him a home.

Contact info is windylinn@live.com or 503-717-1243

I am so grateful to have an option for our most loved Dachshund. Joey is about 8 years old, a loving black and tan. He has some severe medical needs that we can't provide for him due to financial issues.

He is severely overweight, blind, and I believe a diabetic. We have not been able to take him to a vet, and now his "mother" is moving to an apartment that will only let her have 2 dogs. Joey's litter mate, and another Dachshund have lived together all their lives. It saddens us greatly to give him up, but for his sake it is time.

Is he a candidate for your rescue efforts? I sure hope so. Please let me know. My daughter can't bear to be the one to let him go, so I will be in town the end of June, and would like to relinquish him at that time. I hope to hear from you soon.

SAFE!!! VA, Richmond "Frosty" Vision Impaired American Eskimo **Beautiful**

Frosty

Frosty is a beautiful, 10 year old American Eskimo with failing eye sight, and may only see shadows. She needs to find a new forever home or rescue ASAP. Please help! If you find you cannot help her at the moment please share her story and pass it on. Thank you. Matt her current owner writes the following:

Our dog, Frosty, is about 10 years old, she weights around 30 lbs and is an American Eskimo. We adopted frosty back in 2003 when we were volunteering at the Humane Society in our hometown in upstate NY. At the time they Humane Society didn't know what to do with Frosty since she was nervous around so many strange people. My wife and I noticed that in
isolated situations she was a very sweet dog. We immediately agreed to adopt her after they informed us she was going to be put to sleep. We relocated to VA in 2004 with Frosty where she became familiar with small apartment living. She has had exposure to both cats and ferrets. She has never had any issues with either (until the later reference). About 4 years ago Frosty starting having strange episodes where she was losing her balance and could move. They would only last for about 10 min and then she would be able to calm down. Our vet identified this as a seizure which she stated was common in Frosty's breed. She had a handfu! l more of them over about a 6 month period and then they suddenly stopped and she has not had one since. At that same time the vet identified that her vision was failing. She estimated that her blue eye had almost no sight in it and that Frosty could really only see shadows. I do not remember if this was cataract related. This has greatly limited her ability to play in the yard or have any real active play in the house.

In 2010 our first child was born and just this February we were blessed with a second child. We have attempted to get Frosty acclimated to the children but due to their sudden and unpredictable movements she is very tentative. It is obvious that she cannot determine what they are and in an act of defense she barks and has blindly snapped. She has never done any harm until earlier this week. We are not clear on the circumstance but we think the cat was walking by her bed while she was sleeping and must have startled her causing her to lash out at the cat. The cat was not seriously harmed but the idea of this happening to one of the children has brought us to the conclusion that Frosty must be relocated.

Frosty is very friendly to the people she knows and recognizes. She is a very loveable dog but she does require more effort than a typical dog. She does not jump fences nor does she dig holes. She is house broken and she does not chew on anything. She currently stays in our bedroom all day on her dog bed. She does not have any bad habits that I can think of. She has experience with a dog crate but has not been in one in several years. She was spayed in 2003, her last does of heartworm was in March of this year, it was Heargaurd product sold through the Vet. We decided not to continue the medicine as she no longer spends any time out of the house. She prefers to be inside where she is familiar with her surroundings. Our Vet is Courthouse Road Animal Hospital, Dr. Jenkins, (804) 745-2323. We do not have a deadline to place her. We just want to be assured that she is getting a good home where she can live out her remaining years under comfort and safety.

If you are interested in a dog, please make sure that you have a solid plan in place before having the dog pulled. It is a lot of work/cost for volunteers to pull a dog and transport to vet/airport/boarding/etc., and we just want to make sure that at the end of it, the dog gets the loving home he/she deserves, not taken back to AC because everything wasn't thought through and it has nowhere to go.If you can't help by taking one of these fantastic dogs, you can also pledge to help with money for a rescue that will take them! Pledges help to fund the efforts of rescues who are already cash-strapped...keep in mind rescue is a labor of love, many of us have the credit card bills to prove it! If you want to make a pledge, post it in the thread and I will track it. If the dog gets saved, I will contact all that made offers of support! :)See More
These dogs are urgent at Highlands County Animal Control in Sebring, FL. If you are interested in saving any of them, please contact kcrescuecrossposting@gmail.com or PM Animalrescue Crossposting, Jennie Crossposter, or June Wilson. We will help you out. DO NOT CALL AC DIRECTLY UNLESS YOU ARE ALL OF THE FOLLOWING: 1) l...ocal (or willing to drive to Sebring, FL)2) interested in rescuing/adopting the dog yourself (not calling for a friend or telling AC to "give the dog more time")3) have a plan to get the dog home to you4) have the funds to pay the pull fee (they only take a check or cash).ANYONE ELSE (out of area adopter/rescue, no plan for transport, etc) SHOULD GET IN TOUCH WITH US. THANK YOU! If you are a rescue interested in a dog, some of them will have sponsorship funds listed for them . The sponsorship funds are not collected until the rescue takes the dog, and then they are collected BY THE RESCUE. We will help you with amounts and people to contact, but we do not collect funds ahead of time. This avoids any question of our motives or "what happened to the money". Thank you for understanding. DO NOT call and say you are adopting unless you truly intend on physically going to the shelter to adopt the dog. It ties up phones lines and is a waste of the staff's time to explain the adoption procedure over the phone for someone who is purposely not going to show up. They need every free second of their time to answer calls, assist actual adopters, process intakes, and care for the animals. More importantly, they will note the dog’s file that an adopter is en route which will prevent an actual adopter from saving the dog. This is considered a "fake adoption" hold and that is how dogs fall through the cracks and end up being killed.

DO NOT e-mail unless serious about adopting and ONLY if you are able to GO TO the shelter in-person. Please do not email for status updates... the only thing you will accomplish is spamming their in boxes and causing REAL adopter emails to go un-noticed.

SAFE!!! PTS DATE ANYTIME!!! TN, Springfield "Bear" Blind Shepherd X **Handsome**

Bear
This handsome boy is Bear. We know very little about him other than he's a blind shepherd mix who has cataracts. We're told he's very loving! Bear must be out of the shelter ASAP, as time allowed at the shelter is very short, usually only a couple of days! Bear is in desperate need of finding his forever home or rescue NOW!!! Please help! If you find you cannot help at this time please share and pass on his information. Thank you.

The person who took these pictures described Bear as follows: Great to deal with. I have no concerns. Vetting wise he has likely had little and I think is intact. Dogs were barking at him but he never barked back! He is a little timid when someone first goes to get him out of the kennel because it's darkish in there and he doesn't know if you are being his eyes. He is supposed to be 8- so not ancient. His owner left him at this county facility when they moved or something!!

Chance is 5 year old DEAF male American Bulldog /pit mix locate at Caroline Humane in Ridgley, MD. Chance has had a terrible life. He has spent his whole life chained up outside. His "owner" surrender him along with a 2 year old male, 4 year old female and 3 month old puppy. Chance was filthy and covered in ticks. His owner was asked to take the dogs into the kennel area and he literally picked the dogs up and threw them in the kennel . Chance has lived a life of terrible neglect. Then once he got to the shelter they were going to kill him without even evaluating him. He had already been placed in the cage so they could euthanize him. Thanks to a determined kennel tech she conviced the director to give him the chance to be evaluated. Well Chance was evaluated today and he did great. He ingnored the dogs in the kennels and when taken out with another dog was fine with him. He loved everyone at the shelter. At first he was a little mouthywhen he came out of his kennel but once he calmed down he was fine. He is a very, very sweet boy. I am worried how long he might have at the shelter. A 5 year old deaf dog doesn't stand a chance to get adopted at this shelter. Can you help me help him? Email me at showcook1@verizon.net. He needs foster/rescue/forever home.

SAFE!!! XXX URGENT!!! PA, Philadelphia "Misty" Senior Blind in One Eye Terrier X **Adorable**

Misty

Misty (16272533) has grown old with her owners and now they can't care for her any longer due to health issues of their own. Misty is around 15-16 years old, a scraggly little terrier mix that could definitely use some sprucing up. Misty has lived with cats and kids of all ages, but startles easily because she's blind in her right eye, and is possibly losing vision in her left. If you approach Misty slowly so she can sniff you, she offers sweet little tail wags and will crawl into your lap. Being an older girl, she may have some arthritis and her teeth have quite a bit of build up. She's a sweet girl that misses her family. Will you help Misty, a special senior, find her special home? Please Help! If you find you cannot help at this time, please share and pass Misty's information on. Thank you.

ACCT Philly is open seven days a week for adoptions, volunteering and animal control services.

SAFE!!! XXX URGENT!!! PA, Philadelphia "Starr" Blind Yorkie X **Adorable**

STARR

Sweet Starr (A16305580) is a 10-15 year old Yorkie mix who was surrendered because her family just could not take care of her any longer. She’s waiting for her new home, and needs a special place that will be there to help her with her disability: Starr is blind! This poor girl is in pretty good shape considering her age, and she’s got a beautiful silky snow white, grey, and, tan coat. She’s fairly spunky, and happily launches herself into your arms if it means she gets to go out! Starr comes from a home with cats and children, and her former owner says she was good with both. Will you help Starr, a special senior, find her special home? Please Help! If you find you cannot help at this time, please share and pass Starr's information on. Thank you.

This is a 4 yr old female shih tzu. She does have a luxating patella and is blind. She is a very sweet girl that is terrified being in her kennel. SD, Northeast Deaf/ Vision Impaired Collie **Beautiful**

Jack

Jack is a beautiful Double Merle Collie looking for a new home. Iva writes the following:

Jack is a 10 1/2 month old Double Merle Collie. He is Smooth, mostly white with Sable Merle markings. Deaf, has one small eye with limited vision. Neutered, UTD. Housetrained,I keep him on a schedule and if he goes to the door I take him out. He won't bark at the door. Jack barks very little. Mostly when in his crate waiting for his meals. I feed him in crate and he sleeps in crate at night and is also in there when we are gone. So he is crate trained! :-)

Jack would do best as an only dog or possibly with female dogs. He is fine with cats. The reason I am looking to rehome him, is he doesn't get along with my 1 1/2yo male Collie Trajan. Trajan is a soft, submissive boy and it seems Jack wants to pick on Trajan. :-( Jack is possessive of food, toys.

He REALLY loves people. He likes to sit on the couch and lay his head in your lap. He would be a loyal companion. I rescued Jack, please help find him a forever home. If you find you cannot help, please share and pass his information on.

SAFE!!! PTS AT ANYTIME!!! NC, Nashville "Lucky" Partially Blind Cocker **Beautiful**

Lucky

This beautiful purebred, male Cocker Spaniel is a neutered, 5 year old and is named Lucky. Lucky was surrendered by his owners to the Nash County Animal Shelter in Nashville, NC, which is a gassing facility. Owner surrenders are always at a higher risk for euthanasia, and Lucky has a double whammy, as his owners reported he is going blind. He is in desperate need of finding his forever home or rescue now!!! Shelly from Promoting Animal Welfare in NC writes the following.

This is Lucky. He is a 5 year old, neutered purebred Cocker Spaniel. He was surrendered by his owner. His owner reports that Lucky is going blind. We do not know the cause of this and the owner did not disclose. Lucky is friendly and loves attention, but has food aggression. Lucky is an owner surrender which means is at risk for euthanasia when the shelter becomes full.
This shelter is a gassing facility.

Please note this shelter does not do any vetting & we don't know his heartworm status. We do work with out of state rescues as long as the rescue can cover vetting costs and arrange transport.

If you can help please contact Shelly at the information listed below.
