URGENT!! So. Virginia "Ausite" Deaf Aussie **Needs Help This Weekend!**

"Austie"
Needs Help By Weekend
Needs Temp Foster/Adopter

Update:

Austie was the beloved companion of a very sweet and caring older woman. The
dog, however, is too active for her. And he is a big boy. She has recently
fallen three times, and although Austie was not responsible for any of the
falls, her two grown children were worried about her safety, and wanted her to
have the dog euthanized. She refused, and sought rescue help. Not so easy
because Austie was deaf.

Up stepped Anne, and took Austie in, pending a transport that never
transpired. She has kept Austie for five weeks, looking for another way to get
Austie to the herding dog rescue that will find him a forever home. I
volunteered to set up and coordinate a transport.

But now, I find that that herding dog rescue has no space at this time. I desperately need a rescue to take this boy in. Or a four to six week foster until the herding dog rescue can take him. Can you help? Do you know someone who can?

I would take him in, but my hubby has always said he would never foster
dogs, if a dog came to us he would come to stay. And being 76 (and he being 80
I can't believe it sometimes) it is not statistically wise for us to adopt a
young dog at our age (not being morbid, just reasonable).

If you have any questions about Austie, feel free to contact Anne. Her email
address is marianstwin@ She has had much experience with rescuing dogs, so you
can trust her evaluation. So again I ask, can you help?

Rescue/Foster/Adopter Need ASAP!!

A animal rescuer has sadly passed away and her 2 rescued pitbulls now need help again!!!! She rescued them from bad situations and gave them a happy healthy life! They are fully vetted, housebroken, been around older kids, good with other dogs and people.

They are very sweet, playful and full of love. All vetting records will be given from Webster Grove Animal Hospital, plus all the documents when she rescued them. The family is desperate to find them a safe place to go ASAP, and we are trying to make that happen. Do you know of anyone who can take these dogs who have just lost their human momma??? They do not have to go together but both are listed here in case you will open your heart to this pair that already lives and plays together.

~Transport may be able to be arranged~

SAFE!!! URGENT!! TX, Vernon Hearing/Vision Impaired Great Dane **Loves Everyone**

Rescue needed for hearing/vision impaired Great Dane.

Please read below. This sweet Great Dane is at the Wilbarger Humane Society in the care of a short term foster. She needs a place to go. I have asked if the shelter has any idea about her age but she looks to be young. Let see if we can't help this sweet girl.

Joan informed me that you have contacts that rescue hearing/vision impaired dogs. A purebred Great Dane was dumped at our shelter that falls in that category. She has been spayed, heartworm negative, vaccinations are current, she is great with everyone, very out-going personality. She is currently in a foster home, but that is only for a short time.

NY, Yonkers "Mark" One Eye PBT X **Sweet Boy**

MARK

Mark, the one-eyed wonder, a truly amazing dog, seeks his forever home! Mark is about 5 years old, 70 lbs, neutered, up to date on all shots, and microchipped. AmsterDog Rescue wrote the following:

Usually a dog is not happy to arrive at the city shelter, but in Mark’s case, this was a relief from the hell he came from. This sweet boy was used as a “bait dog”, which means dogs being taught to fight were allowed to attack Mark and injure him while he was tied up so tightly that he couldn’t defend himself. The whole side of his face was so infected from wounds never tended to, that you could smell it. His injuries were so severe that he lost one of his eyes. Because it was not known if the attacking dogs had their rabies shot, by law, Mark had to serve a 6 month quarantine, where no one could touch him or walk him for 6 months. A very generous sponsor stepped up to fund this 6 month sentence, and though it broke all our hearts, Mark did his time. He finished his quarantine and never lost his spirit and went to a very caring foster home and now is looking for that home he can call his own.

Remarkably, Mark loves other dogs, is not hand shy or aggressive in any way. He loves people, kids, and dogs. Cats are another story, he will not be good with cats, but is a real no concerns dog who doesn’t mind seeing the world through one eye. He likes everything he sees and has such a passion for life, as though he knows how precious it is and how lucky he is to be alive. Mark likes to cuddle and just be around you and yet he is not needy, he is pretty independent. He's very loveable, and just a big goof ball. Loves bacon flavored treats, and cow hooves, playing with soccer balls, and cardboard boxes. He loves shredding cardboard boxes, but is not a destructive dog. Mark has inspired us all with his unflappable spirit and for all he has been through, he really is truly an amazing dog!!. To meet our boy please use contact info below or download our application at www.amsterdog.org. Thank you!

DO NOT call and say you are adopting unless you truly intend on physically going to the shelter to adopt the dog. It ties up phones lines and is a waste of the staff's time to explain the adoption procedure over the phone for someone who is purposely not going to show up. They need every free second of their time to answer calls, assist actual adopters, process intakes, and care for the animals. More importantly, they will note the dog’s file that an adopter is en route which will prevent an actual adopter from saving the dog. This is considered a "fake adoption" hold and that is how dogs fall through the cracks and end up being killed.

04/25/2012 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: I remember Polly-O when she was first brought into us - she was scared, timid and confused. I spent time with her again yesterday and found the most wonderful dog. She was happy to see me, allowed herself to be leashed easily and out we went. She is likely housetrained, as she "went" as soon as we were outside. She walks well on the leash, is quiet and easy. She posed for her photos like a pro, and as I review them I am struck by the fact that one ear is standing up. You see, Polly-O is completely deaf. So, is the one ear up an attempt to hear us, or simply a co-incidence? I was saddened by the fact that she couldn't hear me and, that until I know what sign language she knows, I won't be able to communicate with her. But, we did communicate by touch. She was thrilled to be petted and cuddled with, and when a stranger came over to remark on how beautiful she is, Polly-O wagged her tail as she was being petted. Polly-O is calm and easy to be with. She was content to put her head in my lap for some loving. When it was time to return she jumped back into her kennel easily and we parted ways with my promise to visit again soon. Polly-O needs a home where she will be loved, and be taught some sign language so that she and her family can communicate. She is an awesome girl waiting to meet her forever family.

MO, St. Charles "Kelly" Deaf Boxer **Loves to Play**

"Kelly"

Kelly is a 1 1/2 year old female boxer and weighs about 48 lbs. Kelly is deaf, has one blue eye and a happy disposition. Kelly is a little skittish at first but once she knows you she is a very affectionate girl. She gets along well with other dogs and loves to play with them and any of her toys. Kelly will need a home where someone can take her to a trainer to help her learn sign language so that she can communicate better. She will definitely need a home with a fenced in yard for her safety because of her disability.

SAFE! PTS ANYTIME!! MD, Baltimore Blind Chi **Rescue Only**

Can anyone help this blind Chi girl? She is rescue only!

31738 (?I think is her Animal ID?) blind Chi female. Very afraid at BCAC.

She came in on the 20th as a stray so yesterday was day four, I don't think they count Sundays so she may have until closing today before they euthanize her.

I saw a Chihuahua cowering in it's cage. When I inquired about the dog they said she was not available because she is totally blind and also had snapped at staff when they picked her up.

She is terrified there and being blind I'm sure just makes it worse. She came in on the 20th as a stray so yesterday was day four, I don't think they count Sundays so she may have until closing today before they euthanize her. I know at shelters this is a usual occurrence but I feel like this blind pup should have a chance.

SAFE!! NC, Greensboro "Oreo" Blind Cocker Spaniel **Needs Furever Home**

"Oreo"

Oreo does know how to go in and out of a doggie door, is pretty much housebroken, gets along with other dogs, but one dog likes to start something with him so I am breaking up a few fights. A big HEY does it so really he does well with that too. He never starts them. He just loves to be where I am and so does the male Shih Tzu.
He is getting around really well with the exception of nightime. He is still bumping into a few of the outdoor stuff.
I have him on Wellness Core low fat and I believe he has lost a pound. He was 26 when I took him to my vets.
He loves to chew on toys and tosses them up in the air. He sometimes gets them and sometimes not.
He is heartworm negative, fecal negative, has had all of his shots, heartworm pills and my vet even did his sugar just to make sure he is not diabetic..he is not.

This very handsome sweet boy is Oreo! He's been pulled by a good samaritan from a high kill North Carolina shelter, but still needs rescue....

I am now needing your help to see if you have room for this special guy. His name is Oreo and he was at a high kill shelter in Statesville, NC. I put out an urgent request to see if anyone could take him in and I had a few rescues tell me to get him out of there which I did. When I took him to the vet we found out he has major cateracts and maybe 1 to 2 percent vision in both eyes. That is his only health issue. He is heartworm negative, is not diabetic and now has had all of his shots and was neutered. He is 7 to 8 years old. He is approx 26 pounds, but I think he needs to loose a few. Very sweet dog. Owner turn in due to wife haveing allergies.

When I sent the results back to the rescues who said to pull him they said they would see what they can do. I have not heard back from them since.

URGENT!! NC, Fayetteville Blind Shih Tzu **Pull/Transport Avail Tues**

Adorable 5yr old, male, blind, Shih Tzu.

More information included in this little guy's post for all....

Beyond cuteness alert......this little boy is in a shelter in Fayetteville, NC. The woman who wrote to us is a puller/transporter and is coming up to Rochester, NY this week. She has offered to give this little doll a ride if anyone is interested in helping this sweet guy out....pictures are below....

I am in NC and pull/foster and transport dogs to rescues. I am getting ready to drive dogs from NC to Rochester, NY this week and the shelter in Fayetteville NC ( Cumberland co) showed me a cute 5 yr old blind shih tzu. They had him groomed and send me pictures a few min ago and they are begging me to help them find a place for him. As most of our southern shelters, they are overcrowded so cannot hold him very long. If I can help transport on my way north, I will be happy to pull her and take him along. Anything I can do, I will to get him out. - Nina

He is posted but he has been groomed since the original posting so he looks different. At the present time, I am going down on tuesday to pull. They are very rescue friendly so there is not a fee for me to get him.

SAFE! XX URGENT!! MO, Cabool Senior Blind in one Eye Dachshund *Sweet*

Adorable, sweet, senior Dachshund, blind in one eye with some limited sight in the other looking for his forever home ASAP. He is about 7 or 8 years old, about 12 lbs. The rescue that has him wrote the following.

We are appealing to you on behalf of this sweet older boy. He is blind in one eye and does appear to have limited sight in the other eye. He can see to move around but seems to have trouble once in while. He bumps into things occasionally but not all of the time, so we know he does have some sight in the one eye.

Animal Control said the owners contacted them last week wanting them to come and get him and put him in the pound, which they did. The owners didn't want to be bothered with his sight problem and age. He is so, so sweet, he follows you around just begging to be loved and wants to stick really close to you.

We are a very small organization and just don't have that many options for older dogs with sight problems in our rural area here. We would love to see him where he could have a chance at a home with someone who understands his needs. Please help!
