01/29/2012 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: One's heart has to sink when looking at a dog like Boston. She is painfully emaciated, her coat is dull and dirty and she appears so tired.... Her waist is so slender that it seems to have been squeezed by a tight ribbon....Her markings are pretty, though and she might have been a beauty in her prime...Boston comes right away to her gate as I show her the leash. She wants to go out. We go to the backyard where roastbeef is waiting for her. She climbs stairs quite well. She is hungry although she takes the treat daintily from my hand. Boston walks slowly but well. She is aware of a male Rottweiler cuddling on the bench with another volunteer. We come close to them and both wave gently their tails. She might be 8 yo but still might like boys.... Boston can sit on command close to my body as I rest on a chair. She does love to be petted. Her manners are calm and friendly. It is difficult to appreciate a dog's temperament when he or she is not in good physical condition. Still, Boston seems to me like a nice older lady who could benefit from the love and care of a compassionate owner and give back the favor. Boston is at the Manhattan Care Center waiting for her new master and savior.

DO NOT call and say you are adopting unless you truly intend on physically going to the shelter to adopt the dog. It ties up phones lines and is a waste of the staff's time to explain the adoption procedure over the phone for someone who is purposely not going to show up. They need every free second of their time to answer calls, assist actual adopters, process intakes, and care for the animals. More importantly, they will note the dog’s file that an adopter is en route which will prevent an actual adopter from saving the dog. This is considered a "fake adoption" hold and that is how dogs fall through the cracks and end up being killed.
For more information on adopting, please visit our website: urgentdeathrowdogs.org and click on “How You Can Help.” There are also helpful links with information on each main album description.
