SAFE! PA, Montrose "Skylar" Blind Hound **Cannot Stand Victim of Abuse**

There is a possible case of animal abuse in Susquehanna County.
Someone found a dog and brought her to True Friends Animal Welfare Center in Montrose.
The dog, named "Skylar", is extremely malnourished and dehydrated.

Volunteers at the no-kill shelter said the dog cannot stand on her own, and is blind.

“The vet suspected that she could have been hit in the head with something, hard enough to cause lack of sight and neurological problems. It's heartbreaking to us that she depended on somebody to take care of her and that she came to us in these conditions,” said President of Board of Directors, Dory Browning.

RIP :-( XXX URGENT!! KY, Prestonsburg "Helen" Blind Golden Retriever X Puppy

This little golden girl is Helen an 8 week old Golden mix who was found as a stray on a busy highway. Imagine that, mostly blind and walking on a busy highway....an angel must have been at this little girl's side... In speaking with Shawna at the shelter she told me that one of Helen's eyes is completely closed, like there is nothing there and the other eye is closed a tiny bit and is blue.

Here is what the shelter wrote about her:

HELEN is an 8 week old female Golden mix who is our special girl who came to us on 1/26/12. She's visually impaired but her sniffer works just fine. She feels her way around a room and does very well! She's your typical playful puppy, aside from the vision problem. She likes other animals and loves to sleep on your lap. Sometimes she gets "lost" in a corner somewhere and all you have to do is tap the floor and say her name to let her know which way to go. Because of her disability, she has to have an indoor home. She can't navigate well enough to be a strictly outdoor doggie.

SAFE!!! OH, Tipp City "Cooper" Shi-Poo with Cataracts

Name: Cooper
Sex: Male (altered)
Breed: Shi-Poo
Age: 6 ½ years
Location: Tipp City, OH

Vet/Medical Info: Cooper had a complete physical 11/2012. He is neutered and heartworm negative. He is due for Rabies 10/7/12, Bordetello 11/29/12, Distemper 10/28/13 and the lepto/parvo 11/2012. He has cataracts.

Owner Info: DOB 7/15/2007. Cooper's owner needs to find a new home for him due to personal circumstances. Cooper has been an excellent dog, friendly, laid back, so easy to love. Circumstances have arrived that make it necessary for her to find him a new and loving home. Cooper is essentially blind due to bilateral cataracts, his first one formed at 10 months old followed by the other eye at one year of age. Surgery is probably a viable remedy to restore his sight but she just cannot afford the cost involved unfortunately and that makes it all the more horrible to know that he could see if it weren't for money issues. He is up to date on all vaccines and has seen his vet regularly. He is large for his breed, his mom and dad were 7 lbs and 13 lbs and Cooper weighs in at 37 lbs. The picture is before his eyes clouded but he still looks adorable. Cooper is an indoor dog with the run of the house, he is housebroken and leash trained. He is good with people and children of all ages, other dogs, cats and small animals. Cooper does very well with his visual impairment and fly’s up and down their stairs incredibly well. Other than his vision he is healthy as a horse as they say. He has had some problem with flea bite allergy but is under control and she keeps him on Comfortis year round now and sprays the yard area where he goes potty. Cooper is a warm, loving, easy going boy and will make someone a very special companion. Cooper's current owner is happy to continue caring for him until we can find him a permanent home.

SAFE!!PA, Bethel Park "Alvin" Partially Blind/Deaf Aussie X

Name: Alvin
Sex: Male (not altered)
Breed: Aussie Mix
Age: 2 ½ months
Location: Bethel Park, PA

Vet/Medical Info: In January 2012 Alvin received a fecal test and a Parvo test.
Negative for Parvo

Owner Info: DOB 11/13/2011. Alvin's owner runs a very small dog rescue in Bethel Park, PA. She rescued an emaciated female dog from a high kill shelter in WV. After feeding her they realized she was starting to get a belly, took her back to the vet and yes she was pregnant! Six days later she delivered (huge surprise). They have a partially blind/deaf little Aussie mix who is 11 weeks old and they are not "savvy" enough to know how to deal with this handicap.
She feels he would be better off in a rescue that knows how to help him. Alvin seems to be able to see shadows and is light sensitive. He is an indoor dog with the run of the house, he is not yet housebroken. He is an outgoing puppy who likes people and children of all ages and other dogs. Alvin is a great puppy, but his owner doesn't feel she has the skill level to take care of him correctly and she's worried that the more she waits, the worse he will get. Also because she runs a rescue, there are always other dogs around, he loves everyone but some of the older dogs don't understand him and she's scared he might get hurt. They vaccinate the dogs themselves (because they are a rescue group and need to be able to vaccinate as soon as they rescue a dog). Alvin is current on his shots, he had his first one on 1/9/2012 and his second on 1/26/2012.

SAFE!!URGENT!! TN, Johnson City "Alexis" Blind Senior Poodle X

There is a little mixed breed girl found as a stray and brought to our attention in the Washington County/Johnson City Animal Shelter in TN. Her name is Alexis. Here is all of the information I got from the shelter on her. Also, listed below is a message sent by Katie a rescue worker who met Alexis at the shelter.

She is an older dog although she has pretty good teeth. She was turned in as a stray. She is great with other dogs. haven't tried her with cats, but I can't imagine she would have any problems. She is missing hair on her back, not sure if it is flea allergy or not. certain not mange, maybe thyroid condition.
Thanks hannah
This was sent in by Katie who was at the shelter and met Alexis...

I just wanted to bring your attention to a blind senior poodle mix in the Washington County/Johnson City Animal Shelter. I came across her as I was helping to find another partially blind dog there a rescue. I had previously met Ubu at an adoption event in Lexington, VA and thought that perhaps that family might be able to help or know of someone who could. I am told that she is very sweet and good with other dogs. She was picked up as stray, and unfortunately that part of the country has difficulty placing animals, as I am sure you are aware. Hannah is the contact you would want to speak with at the shelter- her number is (423)926-8769. Hannah is great and would be happy to work with anyone that might be able to help. DO NOT call and say you are adopting unless you truly intend on physically going to the shelter to adopt the dog. It ties up phones lines and is a waste of the staff's time to explain the adoption procedure over the phone for someone who is purposely not going to show up. They need every free second of their time to answer calls, assist actual adopters, process intakes, and care for the animals. More importantly, they will note the dog’s file that an adopter is en route which will prevent an actual adopter from saving the dog. This is considered a "fake adoption" hold and that is how dogs fall through the cracks and end up being killed.

For more information on adopting, please visit our website: urgentdeathrowdogs.org and click on “How You Can Help.” There are also helpful links with information on each main album description.

01/29/2012 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: One's heart has to sink when looking at a dog like Boston. She is painfully emaciated, her coat is dull and dirty and she appears so tired.... Her waist is so slender that it seems to have been squeezed by a tight ribbon....Her markings are pretty, though and she might have been a beauty in her prime...Boston comes right away to her gate as I show her the leash. She wants to go out. We go to the backyard where roastbeef is waiting for her. She climbs stairs quite well. She is hungry although she takes the treat daintily from my hand. Boston walks slowly but well. She is aware of a male Rottweiler cuddling on the bench with another volunteer. We come close to them and both wave gently their tails. She might be 8 yo but still might like boys.... Boston can sit on command close to my body as I rest on a chair. She does love to be petted. Her manners are calm and friendly. It is difficult to appreciate a dog's temperament when he or she is not in good physical condition. Still, Boston seems to me like a nice older lady who could benefit from the love and care of a compassionate owner and give back the favor. Boston is at the Manhattan Care Center waiting for her new master and savior.

SAFE! URGENT!!! NC, Sparta "Sassy" Chi Blind in One Eye

SPARTA, NC ~Blind In One Eye BREEDER SURRENDERED CHIHUAHUA In KILL SHELTER

Update 2/5:
She is actually 4 yrs old, definitely blind in one eye, is HW Neg, parasite free, utd on vaccinations. Needs to be spayed and needs her teeth cleaned. She’s a bit overweight. She was dumped at the pound by a breeder who said she was “retiring” this dog. “Sassy” has an excellent disposition.

There is a 7 yr old female chi at the Alleghany Animal Shelter, a breeder surrendered her. One of this dog’s eyes has a white circle where the iris and pupil should be. I’ve seen the dog, she’s sweet. Here is the petfinder image: http://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/22011602

If you would like to know if a networked animal is still in need, most of my emails contain links to the animal’s “page” at the shelter website. Simply click on the URL to see if the animal is still listed. (Los Angeles Animal Services’ website is “glitchy,” and often shows the links as invalid or even says “the animal is no longer in our database” when it actually still is, so if you have real interest in any LAAS animal in particular and he/she is not showing up online, CALL the shelter to be sure.)

Mind you, I have not personally met most animals I network, so I am not able to give you any additional information, other than what I sent in the email.

Despite how it may seem, I am not online 24/7, so if you are really pressed for time and need my assistance in some way, call me on my cell at 310.686.9010. Thank you for all you do for the animals!

SAFE!!XXX URGENT!!! NC, HIgh Point: Lab with Severe Mange Affecting Eyes

PLEASE! CAN SOMEONE HELP THIS POOR GIRL??? PITIFUL LAB !

This poor dog is hanging around an apt complex in HORRIBLE condition. She clearly is suffering from severe mange, but is also lame on her right foreleg. Her head is covered with scabs, her face so swollen she can barely open her eyes.

"Princess" is now "running from the bad guy." Animal Control indicates she will be destroyed. She is, however, coming closer to her guardian angel, who wants to see her have a chance at recovery.

If you can help this dog get the chance she deserves to know what it's like to be loved, to feel good, and to trust, please contact Shadan at k9vong08@gmail.com
Princess needs a caring foster, adopter, or rescuer to help her find a forever home. Thank you for opening your heart to another voiceless victim in need.

Corinth, MS: Aussie Mix with Juvenile Cataracts and Puppy

Below are a beautiful aussie mix and possibly, her pup. Poor girls were found on the side of a country road in below freezing temperatures.... These dogs are at Janet's vet now and need rescue as soon as possible. Please network to help them find rescue.

She's about 2 years old, spayed. Weight is approximately 40-45 pounds. I've had her completely vetted and she is HW negative. She's very sweet but still shy after being thrown away. I guess she's having to learn to trust us humans again.

She was found on roadside out in the country in MS when temperatures was in the 20's. She has juvenile cataracts but can still see at this time. Would love to get her into rescue before she loses her sight. I will help get her to any rescue that can take her. Thank you. Any help is appreciated.

The vet believes this is her puppy, female, 4-5 months old (in the photo by the yellow gate). I've had her vaccinated but haven't spayed her yet, but will. Since the juvenile cataracts are hereditary she recommends that if possible we go ahead and try and get her into blind dog group. This is where I found them.

GA, Covington "Opie Taylor" Blind GSD Puppy

took this puppy in on Monday, 1/23/12. A lady called me and told me that her dad’s pure German Shep had had 9 puppies.

This one was blind and the mama pushed away so the lady bottle fed him.

The dad is old and now going into a nursing home, so the german shep went to his son.

The lady really needed to find the puppy a home.

I have it in my shed in a huge kennel, but I am being told it needs some kind of interaction

I had parvo last year at my home so it cannot go on the ground.

SAFE!!XXX URGENT!! VA, Campbell County "Devlin" Blind English Pointer

This is a big S.O.S. for Devlin, a blind english pointer in Campbell County, VA....his owner passed away so Devlin found himself in the shelter. From the message below saying that "24 hours will probably not be enough time to help this boy" i'm assuming he will be put to sleep tomorrow sometime. I'm trying to find out more information and have waited about an hour and not heard anything back so due to this statement and the urgency behind it i'm posting Devlin's information out to everyone. Below is contact information on the shelter....

I realize that 24 hours will probably not be enough time to help this boy, but am going to at least try. I met him on Friday, January 27, when he was still upset at his new environment. Then I spent some time walking him and getting to know him on Saturday, the 28th. He was brought to the pound following the death of his owner. The neighbor had called animal control to come pick him up, but I've no idea how much time elapsed between the death of the owner and the call for help. The neighbor says he is ten years old, but the dog allowed me to check his teeth and I am thinking he is no more than five years. He appreciated being taken outside to potty in the grass, and he is clearly a dog who loves humans and human contact.

"Devlin" is, I believe, an English pointer, grossly underweight, but filling out rapidly at the Campbell County Animal Control and Care Facility. I would love to see something good happen to him or for him, but understand that rescues for special needs are hard to come by in short time. Just letting people know his story makes me feel better today. Thanks for your ear and any hope for assistance. I've also alerted the PointerRescue.org folks.

The shelter is open Weekdays, 12-5.

This blind girl was dumped at the Adams County Dog Pound. From the gray mark around her neck it appears she has been on a chain. She is so skinny. She responds to a gentle touch and soft voice. Please contact us to rescue this precious pup. approx. 6-7 months old.
