Desiree Apricot
Desiree, partially deaf & Apricot, her home mate, are two beautiful senior dogs, possibly Shippeke mixes in Stroudsburg, PA
are in imminent danger. They need to find their forever home or rescue ASAP!!! Please help!!! If you are not in a position to help now, please share their information quickly. Thank you. The information we do have is as follows:
“Five years ago, a couple (not married) adopted 2 dogs from CP. At the time, they both had decent jobs and were engaged. As years went on, they both lost their jobs, one of their cars repo'd, not even money for internet and their email. I've donated some food to them from time to time. I heard from the woman. She needs to leave the man. She has to go into a domestic violence shelter by the 24th of this month. Things got bad as years went on and he got abusive. I have to be careful calling her b/c he even monitors her phone calls. Recently, he got mad at the one dog and pulled a gun on her. The girl got between the gun and the dog. He has an arsenal in his house.
Obviously, since she is leaving, she needs to give up the dogs and frankly, I wish I could get them out now b/c I'm afraid for them in the situation they are in. I have a full house myself here and have no room at all. They are both about 14 and Apricot has a medical condition. Desiree is medically fine, although partially deaf. The only shelter that will take a domestic violence case with pets is a county two hours away, but you have to be a resident of that county so she can't go there. She cannot get an apartment b/c she has no car, no job and no money.
MEDICAL BACKGROUND:
Desiree – The only medical condition we know of on Desiree is she is partially deaf.
Apricot - Serious consideration is being given to euthanizing Apricot at this time if a home is not found shortly. Originally had a thyroid problem 5 years ago and had loss of hair b/c of it. Her hair was growing back well after medication was started. When they got into financial difficulties a couple of years ago, they couldn't continue the meds b/c the vet kept saying a bi-annual b/w had to be done. Since they didn't have the money for that, the vet would not give any more meds. Apricot lost almost all of her hair then. I didn't know any of this until she called me last year for something. When I went over to see her, I asked what the hell was happening. I took her myself to my vet and paid for it. Got her b/w and got more meds. But by then, it was too late. The hair follicles had probably died b/c she never grew any back. When this b/w was done, her liver levels were up high. I didn't have any more money to go with further tests b/c I'm out of work myself, so all the vet could do was assume it might be liver cancer. Well, that was 15 months ago so obviously it wasn't!......These days, she's losing weight and she's very stiff getting up and walking. It takes her a long time to walk from room to room, and she lies around a lot. She's not in pain, and she eats quite well.
I don't want to give the name of the girl, because if this is cross-posted, I don't want it getting back to him that she plans on leaving so please contact me instead. If anyone has any suggestions or questions, please email me directly and I can give you more information. Something has to be done and fast to get these dogs OUT of harm’s way!
