A Volunteer Writes: More often than anyone would like to think, a dog of exceptional need comes into the Care Center. Jo is one of those dogs. When I went into her ward to walk other dogs I had on my list for the day, I couldn't help but notice Jo even though she is in the last pen in a long row. She is all tail wags and wiggles and I come closer to admire this senior girl. Unfortunately, it doesn't take long to see that Jo is a victim of an unkind past, with little scars covering her muzzle and her head. But when I take Jo into the yard for some fresh air and TLC, all of that fades into the background because her enthusiastic spirit rises above it all. Jo walks gently on the leash and appears ever so grateful to share the company of a kind person. She continues to wiggle and wags her tail incessantly. Jo looks up often, making eye contact as if to say, "Are you the one who will show me a different kind of life? I know there is someone who will feed me good meals, bath me and brush me and shower me with affection. I know there is someone who can show me a better life." Jo will be an easy, grateful companion to whoever comes to sweep her off her feet. She doesn't seem too fussed about other dogs. She appears focused on finding the human love of her life. Jo is already an extraordinary beauty on the inside and with the right treatment, she will shine on the outside, too. With expressive eyes, a beautifully colored dark chocolate coat with stark white accents and teddy bear sweet looks, Jo is a true work in progress. Won't you come complete the picture and help Jo blossom into the all-around magnificent girl we know she will be?

RESCUE CONTACTS & INFORMATION for potential Fosters and Adopters, NYACC
***TO ADOPT THIS ANIMAL THROUGH THE PUBLIC ADOPTION SITE, PLEASE GO TO THE FOLLOWING LINK AND SCROLL DOWN TO BOTTOM TO LOG IN AND RESERVE THE ANIMAL. THERE WILL BE A $50 DEPOSIT REQUIRED. http://www.nycacc.org/PublicAtRisk.htm ***
DO NOT call and say you are adopting unless you truly intend on physically going to the shelter to adopt the dog. It ties up phones lines and is a waste of the staff's time to explain the adoption procedure over the phone for someone who is purposely not going to show up. They need every free second of their time to answer calls, assist actual adopters, process intakes, and care for the animals. More importantly, they will note the dog’s file that an adopter is en route which will prevent an actual adopter from saving the dog. This is considered a "fake adoption" hold and that is how dogs fall through the cracks and end up being killed.
For more information on adopting, please visit our website: urgentdeathrowdogs.org and click on “How You Can Help.” There are also helpful links with information on each main album description. Please do not email for status updates... the only thing you will accomplish is spamming their in boxes and causing REAL adopter emails to go un-noticed
