Bonnie is an adorable little one eyed Doxie looking for a new forever home or rescue ASAP!!! Please help!!! If you find you are not in a position to help at this time, please share and pass on her information quickly. Thank you. We received the following information from Ginny:
I would like to introduce you to Bonnie, a playful, loving faithful little Dachshund, who has been a faithful loving companion to my parents for about 10 years, after finding her at my uncle apt when he had passed away.
My Dad has since been diagnosed with Alzheimer's, and my mom has become wheel chair bound, very weak and with Dementia. Bonnie has been through a lot with them and moved several times, but always has adapted and made friends with other pt's and their pets.
In the last couple years dad's disease has progressed to the point where it has been more unsafe for Bonnie to stay with them. A little over a year ago she developed an infection in one eye which had gone blind, and with dad always picking at her eye, it started to get infected and swell, and had to be removed along with teeth that had gone bad.
At first we thought she would probably not bounce back, but amazingly she bounced back quickly, and has more energy than she had before and the facility where she lives with my parents have nick named her the "one eye wiener wonder dog". She is not handicapped by her lack of eye, or loss of 26 teeth, and still runs/bounces around and eats hard dog food.
Whenever I go and visit she will jump down off the chair or bed and run around my legs wanting me to take her outside. As it is now, she is not getting taken out hardly at all, as my parents do not remember, and the staff there is not really good at her care.
I have had to get food and water dishes that allow several days worth of food and water dispensing, as I was finding her being neglected, and her dishes dry, and no food.
I have been trying to work with them on keeping her there as my mom is very attached to her and gets very upset at me talking about finding her another home. Bonnie is being left in the room for hours by herself waiting for mom and dad to come back in as the facility keeps my parents involved in activities. …….
She is a very good dog and deserves a second chance at having a family that loves her. She is about 11-12 years old.
Please help as I have been calling and trying everywhere to get her a home. Thank you!
