A volunteer writes:
Glenda is a well mannered and gracious older dog. She has been kept in mint shape by her owner who unfortunately lost his or her home. Glenda is feminine. She is trim in her salt and pepper suit. Her face is delicate and attractive. She seems to wear eyeliner. All together, Glenda is an elegant female. Glenda is a dream on the leash. She is of course housetrained. At times and mostly when she sits very close to me, Glenda whimpers very softly. More hugs are in order. She is very needy and affectionate. Glenda was clearly a family dog, a pet who was very much liked by her owners and finding herself in a shelter is a major shock to her. Glenda is very docile, obedient and executes orders readily. She is a perfect and proper dog who wants to please her caretaker. Glenda is at the Manhattan Care Center. I hope that soon enough, sweet Glenda will be happy again in the care of a loving master or family.

DO NOT call and say you are adopting unless you truly intend on physically going to the shelter to adopt the dog. It ties up phones lines and is a waste of the staff's time to explain the adoption procedure over the phone for someone who is purposely not going to show up. They need every free second of their time to answer calls, assist actual adopters, process intakes, and care for the animals. More importantly, they will note the dog’s file that an adopter is en route which will prevent an actual adopter from saving the dog. This is considered a "fake adoption" hold and that is how dogs fall through the cracks and end up being killed.
