CA, Los Angeles "Mitzvah" Blind in 1 eye/Cancer

Oh no ....this is so sad....poor Mitzvah has had a terrible life and it just keeps on happening to him....First he was the prisoner of a hoarder where he was a victim of such neglect that he went blind in one eye & had a dislocated hip. If this was not enough this poor guy now has cancer and only has a few months to live and will now loose his foster home. Please if you know anyone who might be able to open up their home to him send this to them immediately.....
Loosely translated, Mitzvah means "a kindness". And whoever could open their home to this old dog for two or three months would be doing a huge mitzvah.

A few months ago Mitzvah was saved from a hoarder at the very end of his life after such neglect that he was blinded in one eye, his hip was dislocated. He lived a "wasted" life of neglect and misery for years.

Now he is losing the only good thing he has ever known. because his fosters work full time and he cannot wait until they get home to relieve himself. He is not ready to die but perhaps has only a couple of good months left. Please contact Lori or Carole if you can help. Please cross-post widely.

FL, Port St. Joe "Helen" Blind senior toy poodle/partner "Anne"

Helen a senior toy poodle who is blind. She came into the shelter with her life long companion, Anne. We would like to homethem together if at all possible. Helen will follow people and Anne very well. She is a cutie. She likes everyone, especially kids. If you can help either one I would greatly appreciate it. As with most shelters we are at capacity and placing these 2 is very urgent.
Helen and Anne are lovely senior dogs. They are looking for a retirement home to call their own. Due to circumstances beyond their control they ended up here. Helen, the little poodle is blind and requires the service of Anne to help her around. Anne loves to play fetch and this delights little Helen. These two are inseparable and must be kept together if at all possible. If you can give these two very special ladies a home, please do not hesitate to contact us. If you are unable to adopt at this time, perhaps you could foster or make a Donation. All pets adopted from SJBHS will be current on vaccinations and spayed/neutered.

URGENT!! GA, Canton: "Belle", Possable eye and/or hearing issues (senior)

This dog is currently living in Whispering Pines MHP. The owner of this dog is leaving, the dog, Belle, can't go with her. Of course she has to be out by this weekend. She is 13 years old, vet work is unknown. She is a BC mix of some sort. Belle will go to the shelter if no one offers help and she will never make it out. I will pay the Pet Vet rate for her spay if that helps. I know it's a stretch but doesn't hurt to ask. Can you post her?

It’s an old broken down dog who hasn’t had a chance and will probably die at the shelter. She looks pretty worse for the wear. I think she said bc b/c she’s black and white

This poor sweet dog needs a home and fast. She comes with a spay sponsor as well. Picture attached. Please contact me ASAP if you can help poor Belle.

This poor dog has tolerated these living arrangements, most likely her entire life (13 years) and now her owner is moving and is taking her to the shelter to die. Is anyone out there to give her a retirement home where she can feel a little love in what is left of her life?

FL, Orlando "Possum" Blind Catahoula

POSSUM NEEDS A NEW FOSTER OR ADOPTER:
We rescued Possum from a shelter and sent her to the foster mom last week. She said that she loves Possum but she can not foster her anymore. The foster mom's adult son who lives with her works nights and sleeps days, she said that Possum barks and keeps the son up during the day.

Possum is a beautiful 1 yr old Catahoula, weighs 48 lbs. She is blind (can see some shadows) but can hear just fine. She is spayed, up to date with all shots, microchipped, on monthly heartworm prevention, and house and crate trained. Possum LOVES to play with other dogs, she is good with all people and very friendly. She does chase the cats and thinks it's a game. She is very smart and wants to please, she loves to go on walks and is very gentle when she takes treats from your hand.

TX, Austin "Pierre" Blind Senior Poodle

Stacy found this tiny little 12 yr. old man running in circles in the middle of a street in Austin , Texas . She took him to Town Lake Animal Shelter with instructions to contact her if they were going to euthanize him. So…..they called her because he was indeed on the euth list! She went after him but she cannot keep him. She works long hours in a busy law office, has 3 other dogs and 2 little boys. She does NOT want to send this little guy back to the shelter but she can’t properly care for him or give him the time he needs, either.
Sweet little Pierre has escaped possible death twice, once from the middle of the street and once from being PTS! Poor baby is old and blind and he just needs a place to call home for his golden years!

PA, Barnesville "Wee Willy" Blind Dachshund

Over the weekend I saw a post for a 1-1/2 yr old (M) dapple dachshund that was blind at birth, so he doesn't know he's handicapped. The owner wanted to give him away free, I didn't want him to fall into the wrong hands so I wrote to her and she said I could have him! Wanted to meet the NEXT day! So I took him. I have bigger dogs that don't understand he's got a problem.I'm afraid they will hurt this little guy. I was hoping that maybe someone in doxie rescue could help him? The previous owner said he followed her other dogs around. They kept him in a room by himself most of the time so he doesn't know what to do with himself,. He's never been walked on leash I don't think. He is a sweetie though, gives lots of kisses, chews things a lot, barks a lot and runs in circles. He's not much for being a lap dog. A sweeter boy you won't find though! He is not neutered and has not had recent vetting.
Here is the link to the pictures. We think the reason he barks so much is because he was left in a room alone all of the time and would bark until someone came. He would probably do well with someone who will spend time with him and train him.

SAFE!!VA, Chatham "Jewel" Blind Lab/Chow X

Here is Jewel, a blind senior lab/chow mix...with a small rescue in Chatham, Virginia but not doing well....

From Tonja:
I am with a small non profit rescue in Chatham, VA. We have an 11 year old female lab/chow mix very sweet dog whose owners are divorcing and she was going to be turned into the pound. A relative called and asked if we would please take her. We did last week but are really not equipped to give her the attention and surroundings she is going to require to be comfortable and feel secure. She was terrified and trembling constantly but is adjusting. Please let me know if there is any chance your group might have a foster home available for her. She is solid black, on the small side but “chubby”.

Her name is Jewel. She appears to be fine with other dogs but is not having a lot of contact right now.
She has been spayed, utd on rabies but that was the only vaccinations she has had and she has been blind about 4 years.

VA, Martinsville "Buckeye" 1 eyed Boxer

From Nathan at the Martinsville, VA SPCA:
We have had a wonderful, sweet one-eyed boxer come through our county pound. Buckeye was a stray with no collar so we don't have too much history on him, but he has a wonderful disposition and no other problems besides the missing eye.
Buckeye went up to the vet last Wednesday, 6/22/2011, where he was neutered and rabies vaccinated.
Buckeye is currently in our shelter where we drafted him over from our county pound. We just couldn't let him be put down after his holding period ran up. He has no problems with children, other dogs, and even cats. He is housebroken. He is about a year old, recently fixed, heartworm negative, and starting his first round of vaccines (Rabies, DHLPP, and Bordatella). His eye appears to have been surgically removed, so someone obviously took care of him before he started his life on the run.

URGENT!! AL, Theodore: "Dakota", Partially Blind Husky

Update June 23, 2011

We still need a home for Dakota. She is in a kennel and it's hot outside so she needs a home DESPERATELY.
PLEASE CONTINUE TO KEEP HER LISTED.
I have had two major surgeries within two weeks and was diagnosed today with a blood clot. I need help!!
I have to close "Lost Without You" Animal Rescue because of my health. There is no one else to take it over. Please continue to help me find this baby (Dakota) a home.

Dakota's Information:

Dakota has been in the rescue for a while now. She was adopted and her owner turned her in because she was getting out of his privacy fence.

She is about 3 yrs old. Her eye had to be removed when her previous owner decided they didn't want her anymore and they took her chain off and stopped feeding her. They were hoping that she would leave but instead she knew it was her home and became hungry and started killing the chickens to she wouldn't starve to death. The owner and his wife, shot Dakota in the foot and beat her in the eye with a pipe until her eye was gone.

Dakota ran to a neighbors house ( in a trailer park) and stayed there. "Lost Without You" wasn't made aware of the situation for days and by then everyone decided to it was better for them to "Not be involved". By the way Dakota's previous owner was a pastor and his wife. A limousine sits at their house 24/7. GO FIGURE! Lost Without You got Dakota's eye removed. She is spayed and has all of her shots. She does well with some dogs and some she doesn't. She is not good with cats. She does not like anyone touching her hips. She has not been around kids a lot.

NC, Concord "Gracie" Deaf Catahoula/PBT X

Gracie is a white female pitbull who was said to be rescued from dog fighting. She was brought into a Concord, NC vets office on Saturday, June 18th in an emaciated condition (ribs showing) with an embedded collar. While at the vets office, she was also found to have probable deafness in both ears. She is EXTREMELY people friendly and such a sweet girl, but seems to have some dog issues (to what extent is unknown).

The vets office had limited room to board this poor little girl, so she has only a few days to be fostered or rescued before she will have to be taken to Animal Control and suffer an excruciating death in the gas chamber. All she needs is someone to show her some mercy (which she has probably never been shown) and give her a 2nd chance. Even if you can only foster her for a short time until a more permanent solution can be found, please find it in your heart to help save this poor little girl.

We think she was used as the bait dog .... which is just horrible, particularly considering she's deaf. We've gotten her first round of shots, including, rabies, and she's heartworm negative. The vet puts her at about a year old. We'll keep boarding her as long as I can .... we may have found another, temporary place for her to stay but it's outdoors and, in this heat, that's not good. I'll keep her at the vet's, boarded, and use the outdoor option only as a last resort.

The girls at the vet's office say she's just wonderful with people ... eager to please and very sweet. She just needs another chance.

Please crosspost widely.

SAFE!!GA, Monroe "Dover" Blind Doberman

Please read below about Dover...a very handsome Doberman Pinscher in a Georgia shelter. Dover was brought in by his owner. Because he's an owner surrender, he has NO MANDATORY HOLD TIME. He is about 1 1/2 years old and weighs about 70 pounds. As of yesterday, there has been no interest....
Dover” (#2011 1644) – Special Needs Dobie

See my full post at www.waltonpets.net including age, weight, medical history, etc. along with updates about my status!
“Dover” was surrendered to our shelter because, “he’s crazy and too much for me.” She said he bites at the air coming from the vents amongst other quirky behaviors. But after spending just a few minutes with “Dover”, it appears he may be near blind or can only see movement. His eyeballs also seem a bit undersized. (We are not veterinarians, but making the best guess we can). He has a very nice attitude towards people and other dogs. His owner said he is good with cats and children too. He is already neutered and current on vaccines until October, 2011. We heartworm tested him and he is negative! He does have some type of skin condition (probably a victim of poor breeding). He’s had some obedience work, but needs someone with patience and experience willing to work with his handicap. “Dover” is an owner surrender and has no mandatory hold time. Since he is already neutered he is also available to out-of-state rescues and adopters! More photos are attached or see his post at www.waltonpets.net
