SAFE!! TX, Fort Worth: "Ray Charles", Blind Lab/Pit Mix

We are trying to help find a home or a rescue to help with a very sweet blind dog that has been abandoned at a horse farm in Ft Worth TX. We are calling him Ray Charles. I was contacted by Ann Souders of Ft Worth. Her husband keeps his horses at a barn and that is where the dog was abandoned.
Here is the email I received from Ann:
The dog arrived with a horrible eye infection. Since then the dog’s infection has been treated and subsided, but the dog is now blind. He needs to find a home because he will get hurt over there the more foals that are born. He loves to get in with them and play but the mommas don’t like it. He is golden color and very sweet but you can tell he can’t see. He needs to be in a fenced yard where he won’t get hurt. He loves attention and being petted and is very smart…he followed our voices all around. He doesn’t act at all mean or aggressive and even when trying to get in with the babies he wants to play. If you all know someone who would love to get a canine star in their crown….let me know! If you want to see him I can take you over any time! Please help us find him a place to go asap. Joe Allen, who has the horse farm, is anxious to find a place for Ray Charles before he gets hurt. Joe’s son is a vet, and Joe promises that Ray Charles will be neutered at no cost for the person who adopts him.

To ask about adopting Ray Charles and getting him to safety, call:

FL, Avon Park: Blind American Staffordshire Terrier/Pit Bull Terrier Mix

This sweet guy is less than 2-years-old and blind. Joe somehow found himself at animal control and was very bewildered. He is good with other dogs and loves the company of people. We are not sure but Joe may have been born blind since he compensates so well for is disability. He only weighs 46 lbs. and would be a great addition to anyone's family. Currently he has to live outdoors at his temporary foster home but he would love a family of his very own. Please call to meet Joe and be impressed by his good looks and great attitude!

CA, Los Angeles: "Sammy", Blind 12yr old Alaskan Husky

BLIND SENIOR ~ SAMMY is a spayed female, buff & white Alaskan Husky, about 12 years old, approx 39 lbs, in since 2/8/11. ID#A1187732

She has been at the pound before & it's pretty apparent was being neglected. Sammy can see the difference between light & dark. She responds to her name & loves other dogs, when she met Taj (her new bff) & went for a walk, as soon as Taj was away from her she would start to cry, she longs for a companion. She is able to walk in & out of her kennel to go potty is able to find her comfy bed to sleep & find her food & water. She had a ear infection that is being treated, got groomed, enjoyed her bath & loves her walks. Besides not being able to see she is surprisingly still very active & would love to find a forever home or foster with other dogs.

The shelter is totally full still, and the temperature is dropping in the 30s and 20s this week. Most of them are large in size, and are now being housed in the outside kennels also. The weather is going to be the deciding factor for these dogs. All medium to large sized dogs available by Wednesday 2/23/11 are considered in danger of being put to sleep. IF they need to close the outside pens, they will need to have 10-12 bigger dogs minimum gone by Wednesday. There is an older dog that was surrendered after her owner died, she is available and in great danger being old and and OS. ADOPTED!! AL, Wetumpka: "Helen", Blind Terrier Puppy

Hi, wanting to check in and let you know we still have this pup and if you have any foster spots opening up that would really be wonderful as we have had no one interested in her. She is wonderful in every way except her housetraining so she is back at the shelter (in our office). She just needs a more defined schedule to help her learn as she is very bright – her foster mom worked so just could not get her out as often as needed. She has really not grown all that much since I wrote in early Jan – still less than 15 lbs. Any chance of a spot for our girl?

Hi, my name is Rea Cord and I am the Director for an Open Admission shelter in south-central Alabama (about 15 miles northeast of Montgomery). We took in this little gal in early December as a stray that no one ever called for. She is a Terrier mix, about 10-12 lbs at 12 weeks old. One of our staff has been fostering her at her home and says it is sometimes hard to tell that ‘Helen’ is blind. Helen just loves playing with her children and other pets and does run into things occasionally, but, of course, her sense of hearing is so acute she really does wonderful at figuring out where everyone is and getting around. She may also have two inguinal hernias, but a vet that looked at those for me said best to wait until she was older to repair them and actually they have reduced in size so much now that it is difficult to tell they are there.

So, wondering if your program might have room for this wonderful little gal. As cute as she is we have never had a lot of luck adopting a blind dog – deaf ones do better, but not blind. Helen has had two sets of immunizations thus far and de-wormings and is just a too cute and bouncy girl. She will stay in foster and out of the shelter until we can get her placed.

Let me know what you think and I greatly appreciate what you are doing to help blind dogs in need.

URGENT!! TN, Newport:"Pouncer", Partially Blind Boxer/Terrier Mix

I am writing to you about a wonderful boy who came in to the shelter with an eye injury that has left him unable to see out of his left eye. He had a dark stain all around his neck indicating a chain... Pouncer is very sweet and affectionate. His injury appears to be fairly recent as we have observed him bumping in to things (trees, dog houses) when out in a fenced exercise area. A shelter is a stressful place for any animal, but especially for a dog that cannot see properly.
The good news is that Pouncer has a sponsor that will pay for his vetting including surgery for his eye. The bad news is that he only has a spot until we run out of space. I know this is your speciality and am hoping you will be able to help. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated! Pouncer is a good boy and I'm really hoping we can make something happen for him.

Claire (A12393116) is a beautiful but sad female Chihuahua-Pug mix who came
into the shelter injured- her eye was badly damaged and hanging out, and so
it had to be surgically removed. She is 2-4 years old and otherwise seems to

hasn't been particularly affectionate or friendly, but we think her behavior
will greatly improve as she recovers and learns to trust people again.

SAFE!! URGENT!! TX, SULPHUR SPRINGS: Lab Mama and Puppies (one blind)

A PRECIOUS FAMILY DUMPED LIKE TRASH!!!

An urgent plea for a miracle

Hello All...

I’m desperately searching for help for this very sweet momma and her eight (4 week old) babies who were heartlessly dumped like trash.

Unfortunately, their time is up at the shelter and my heart is hurting at the thought of putting them down.

I’ve temporarily moved them to a volunteer’s house in hopes that this amazing network can work their magic to find help for them.

If they’re not rescued or adopted soon they’ll have to be returned to the shelter and they just don’t deserve that.

They’re such a precious family and have already been through so much.

At first, all I found were the puppies, alone, scared and not eating.

Apparently, the momma had gone out desperately looking for food. When I finally found her, she was running down the highway near the shelter. I could tell she was starving, thin and terribly stressed but thankfully she trusted me and let me rescue her. This dear momma loves her babies and was so happy to be back with them.

The momma is an absolutely wonderful girl, great around other dogs, appears to already be house trained, and is so very gentle and loving toward everyone she meets.

She literally appears to be thankful to have been rescued and cherishes being loved on.

The stress though that she’s been under has caused her milk to dry up and a volunteer is having to help feed the pups.

They’re drinking goats milk and eating canned puppy food and fortunately, they’re all doing great and absolutely adorable.

One of the yellow pups appears to have an issue with her eyes.

*I had the vet examine her and one eye may be smaller and undeveloped while the other eye’s eyelid is turned inside. He gave us some cream to put on it and she’ll need to be seen again in two to three weeks. If the eyelid
doesn’t turn out it can be easily fixed though with a simple surgery. It could be this sweet little girl may turn out to be partially blind and then again she may be just fine. It’s too early to tell but either way, it’s not going to keep her from being a wonderful dog and leading the happy life she deserves.*

Please...I’m reaching out to this incredible network to find a miracle for this very precious family.

They deserve a chance to live!

Call or email as soon as possible if you can help and please share!!

Thank you for caring!

VERY CUTE AND LOVEABLE COMPANION DOG.PLEASE HELP.

Going blind, dumped in Stockton
*Importance:* High

Nothing yet for him! I saw him again yesterday. He looks like an aussie or
bc was in there somewhere but he's small. If he sees you coming, he
harmlessly shoos away the other dogs and comes to the front and throws his
head back and barks, "Take me!" I think his right eye is ok and I know he
can see. It's the left eye that is clouded. He is adorable. To pts him would
be such a shame. There was a cat in his kennel yesterday, curled up, none of
them in there seemed to mind and I never said a word.

*This boy is adorable. He is about twenty-five, thirty pounds, is going

Please all you wonderful rescues look at this blind and possibly partially deaf sweetheart. As I read the story this person wrote about her, I was so very touched - tears began dropping off my chin. I just rescued a tiny beagle boy off the street and he is sitting here as I write knowing in his little heart something is wrong and begins licking my tears away. That is what a rescue dog will do. Please please can someone rescue her. She is going to AC very very soon. They will put her down there because no one wants a blind dog. Even though she is pure love. She is at a vet for now.

Please read more about her below … Linda Baker Crossposter

*Contact is Vera at # 901-335-8625. *

I cannot see you Mommy, when you cuddle me so near.
And yet I know you love me, it's in the words I hear.
I cannot see you Daddy, when you hold me by your side
But still I know you love me when you tell me so with pride.
I cannot see to run and play out in the sun so bright
For here inside my tiny head it's always dark as night.
I cannot see the treats you give when I am extra good
But I can wag my tail in Thanks just like a good dog should.
"She cannot see. The dogs no good" is what some folks might say
"She can't be trained, she'll never learn She must be put away."
But not you, Mom and Daddy You know that it's alright
Because I love you just as much as any dog with sight.
You took me in, you gave me love and we will never part
Because I'm blind with just my eyes, I see you in my heart.*

*Please cross post*. Hopefully, someone will be able to help this dog. She
*will* go to the shelter in a few days, where she will more than likely be
killed because she is not highly adoptable and the shelter is forced to make
these tough decisions because of our city’s overwhelming pet
overpopulation.

She was found wandering around Chickasaw Gardens. She is about 3-4 years
old, very sweet, and is blind and partially deaf. She has a collar, no tags
or chip.

She is temporarily at Walnut Grove Animal Hospital in Memphis, TN, where she
will be able to stay for a few days, thanks to their compassion.

They weigh between 50 – 60 lbs. They are in good health except that Max was in an accident and is partially blind. Max is not yet neutered, as he is considered "stud-worthy"… They have always been kept inside and are good house dogs. have 7 dogs of my home..Attention from me is stretched so many ways he
deserves to have his own Mom and Dad.
Can anyone help--step up to the "plate" and give this guy a wonderful
home..Call Jackie Flood 828 295-0787

*Couple found dead in WJ home*

Law enforcement officials are investigating the deaths of a couple at their
home east of West Jefferson.
“We believe at this time that it involves either a murder suicide or a
suicide pact,” Ashe County Sheriff James Williams said this morning.
Dead are Robert Louis Parise, 49, and Linda Ann Parise, 58, Williams said.
On Tuesday morning, a deputy went to their home at 456 Rustic Road, West
Jefferson off of Hartzog Ford Road.
The sheriff said the couple’s landlord had called his office concerned about
the couple. The landlord lives nearby and had not seen the couple or lights
on in the house for about a week.
The deputy found the house secured and a dog tied outside when he arrived
around 11:30 a.m. “He (the dog) was in pretty rough shape.”
The deputy forced his way into the house and found the two in the bedroom.
Local authorities called the State Bureau of Investigation for assistance
and the West Jefferson Fire Department assisted. The fire department
provided breathing devices for officers because of the condition of the
remains, the sheriff said.
The sheriff said that Robert Louis Parise was disabled and there was
evidence that he was depressed. The sheriff’s office had talked with family
members of the Parises Tuesday night.
No weapons were found in the home, the sheriff said. There was no sign of a
violent confrontation. Medications were found nearby in the bedroom. There
was no suicide note found, according to the sheriff.
The remains were transported to a state lab in Chapel Hill for autopsy, the
sheriff said. Determining the cause of death will likely require six to
eight weeks for completion of toxicology testing.

NC, Mt Airy: "Shoo Shoo", Blind Bassett hound.Aussie Mix

Shoo Shoo is a very sweet and blind mixture of Bassett hound and Australian shepherd. He was a rescue dog and we can no longer take care of him. Having to travel with my job. He lives on our deck and we try to walk him, but he doesn't get a long walk every day. We bring him in when it is cold or raining, into the laundry room. He would be best for someone who does not have other dogs or children. He was jumped on by another dog once when we were walking and he is now scared of dogs he didn't already know ( before he went blind ) about a year ago. He has been neutered and is up to date on all shots. Can you love him like he would love you? He just wants someone to love him, he has alot of love to give.

SAFE!! PA, Ulster: "Maisy", Blind Senior Cocker Spaniel

Maisy is a senior spayed female Cocker Spaniel who came to us as a stray from Towanda. She is blind, but functions very well - she can walk slowly on a leash, remember where things are in a familiar environment, and sniff out her food bowl. Maisy is very sweet and would love to snuggle up on a couch with someone. She is quiet and mellow and likes to be carried. Maisy is missing some of her teeth and has some medical issues such as cataracts which cause her blindness. We estimate that she is around 12-13 years old. I would love to have her adopted or fostered out. She spends some time in the back office with me, but I can tell she is frustrated with not knowing where she is. She loves to be pet and held. Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.

This girl stands no chance here in the shelter. She is terrified. Her owner

SAFE!! EXTREMELY URGENT!! Blind German Shepherd being left in the snow!

Please see the sad story below about a blind female gsd who is being kept outside on a chain and the woman can't even afford to feed her. Thankfully someone brought a doghouse to the property so that she can at least find shelter there. If you take a moment to look at the pictures attached this poor girl looks like she is starving for love and some human contact. Poor baby...out in the cold in Illinois. I've asked for some more specific information about location in Illinois, etc.
Please if anyone can help?

Thank you for any consideration you may be able to give to this poor girl...don't even have a name for her.....so sad to live your life like this!
Linda (Intake Co-coordinator)

This dog is not in a shelter, however she might be better off. A very dear friend in Illinois called me about this situation. I am trying to find a safe place for this little girl (1-2 yrs). My understanding is the owner of this dog will relinquish ownership. The owner can not even feed her and she is living outside on a chain. My friend took a doghouse to the location so she would have shelter and takes food when she can. My other fear is she will come into heat and there are other dogs on this property. Three dogs were relinquished (small dogs) but this little girl who is blind has no place to go. My friend already has dogs in her care plus a cat rescue. I told her I would do some searching and I am praying you can help. I can also be reached at home: 405-282-1118. I moved to Oklahoma from Illinois a year ago and I know the area this dog is in and it isn't good. We can get her off this property but she needs a place to go. Please contact me and thank you. Pics attached.

EXTREMELY URGENT!! OH, Youngstown: Blind American Bulldog/Great Dane Mix

HAS UNTIL FEB 8th!

We are located in Youngstown Ohio. This guy is at a heart stick shelter. Sadly, the pound has been getting way too many dogs in. The pound euthanizes for space and he might be picked because he is blind. The pound does not do well on adoptions in general.

The dog is 60lbs of sweetness!! He really likes to be with people. He loves attention. He loves when you pet him. He also likes to be close to the other dogs at the pound. You can put him with other dogs. He actually likes being with them. We have to keep everybody on a leash as the pound has no fencing, but we do let them play together on long leashes.

Do you think you could take him? We can provide transportation. He will also be neutered, have rabies vaccine, DHLPP, bordatella, and heart worm test. If a dog were to test heart worm positive all we ask is that you please take the dog after treatment.

We pay for boarding until transport. Our foster homes are jammed with dogs.

Can you save him? A while back we sent Joyce a very nice blind Dane mix. He was great for her.

The pound has this boy labeled as a Dane mix. His legs are long. He is very tall and lean. Some say he looks boxer mix, Dane American Bulldog mix, hound dane mix...who knows lol :) All we do know is that he is a sweet boy.

Here is a video link of him if you have Facebook.

ADOPTED!! AR, Fayetteville: "Mickey", Blind Husky/Chow mix

We began fostering 2 dogs a while ago. Minnie was blind in one eye and Mickey is blind in both. Minnie was quickly adopted, but Mickey has had a harder time finding a permanent home. He is approximately 3-4 months old and a chow/husky mix - the product of bad breeding, seized appropriately by the Fayetteville (Arkansas) Animal Shelter (479-444-3456,http://www.accessfayetteville.org/government/animal_services/index.cfm).

He plays well with other dogs, doesn't seem to mind cats, and is very lovable. He is cream colored, fluffy and big for his age and will probably grow to be a large dog. He has picked up house training quickly and loves to be treated, especially with peanut butter. He is being crate trained and responds to puppy commands easily. He is a joy to be around and if we could afford another animal we would keep him.

Please inform people they can contact the shelter if they are interested and have a big heart because he certainly does. Attached are some photos of this wonderboy.
