Sally is located in a kill shelter in Gettysburg, PA. She is a 2-3 year old Pit mix who is deaf. Her description states that she is UTD on all vaccinations, is dewormed, and is good with other dogs and cats. She does not display any aggression issues. She was dumped in the shelter's police pen with no note. The shelter is attempting to locate a rescue for Sally, because of her breed and disabilities, she will sit at the shelter too long. Sally is located in the Meyer's Animal Shelter (formerly Adams County SPCA) in Gettysburg, PA. Their phone number is 717-334-8876 and their email address is contactus@adamscountyspca.net. Their website is http://meyersshelter.org/.
I have had interactions with this shelter many times, none of them have been positive. My husband and I offered to foster Sally, but were denied without a home visit, a reference check, meet and greet, or even a phone call. Their reasoning was because we already had three resident dogs and no deaf dog experience, our "environment would not work for her". They insisted she was "faring well at the shelter". This concerns me for several reasons 1) it appears they are not truly concerned for her welfare; who would think any dog would do better in a shelter environment than in a foster home? and 2) as I stated, they never gave us the time of day to know what our experience was or what our "environment" was like. We offered to pay for all of Sally's medical expenses while she was in our care, including her spay (as they are not sure if she is spayed), as well as obedience training at our local canine training center. We were completely ready, willing, and able to take Sally in as one of our own until she could find her forever home.
