This senior dog has been fending for herself, all alone..., deaf. A resident contacted me today asking for help finding her a home. Age-unknown, likely older.
Found-front yard of Yorkville, Ohio home.
Personality-very very loving, wants nothing more than to be snuggled and petted. Follows closely to caretaker. Seems to be leash trained and housebroken, but has a bad habit of jumping up on caretaker when excited. Has had a diet of human trash for an indeterminable amount of time, so she has trouble recognizing kibble as her food. Caretaker is slowly re-training her to eat kibble. Does not bite or chew. Will play fetch with treats and bounds around the yard like a puppy. Needs reassurance, but adapts well to new places.
Good with kids/other pets-unsure about kids, as caretaker has not brought her around any. Indifferent towards cats.
Disabilities-Deaf. Does not respond to noise unless it's a heavy 'vibrating' noise that shakes the air or ground. Does not bark, or whine, caretaker guesses a result of her deafness or past abuse for making noise. Makes a jaw-snapping or 'lip smacking' noise instead when happy. She does not respond to commands, also a symptom of her deafness, but will come when a 'come' motion is made. Has a bit of stiffness in her hindquarters when she gets up after lying down for awhile.
If she goes to the catch and kill dog pound in Jefferson County, she will surely die there, invisible. They do not list all or even a fraction of their pets on petfinder. One of the highest kill shelters in the area.
