More info on the blind mastiff mix I posted yesterday.... we just found out SHE ONLY HAS UNTIL TOMORROW AFTERNOON!!! This volunteer has offered to take responsibility for her vet costs (I will forward her contact info to any legitimate rescue that is able to take this girl)
PLEASE CROSSPOST!!!
Hi,
I'm a blind dog owner & a volunteer at the MHS Detroit shelter. On Sunday, I met a mastiff mix who appears to have cataracts & glaucoma in both eyes. He is being given pain medication. Dog will be euthanized if I can't get him help. They have one vet who could do intravitreal injections but this person is out of town for a week so nothing will be done for dog unless a rescue would take him. I am able to take responsibility for his vet costs to a legitimate, reliable, trustworthy rescue.
More info:
Thank you for responding. The dog hasn't been temperment tested. They don't feel that they can put him up for adoption because of the blindness and cost of medical care. AIl I can tell you is that he was turned in a stray, is ok on a leash with strange people and that he's not as big as a full mastiff, brindle color. Which is not much information. He would only be released from MHS to a rescue group so I can't get him out on my own & I can't offer to give him a foster home because I already have 3 dogs in the house. Staff person at the Detroit shelter is Jennifer 313 872 3400 ext 301. I am sad to say that I think he will be put to sleep soon.

The dog is a female!! Not spayed. 6 -7 yrs old based on the teeth. Weighs 80 lbs. Heartworm test was negative.
She handled the blood draw without getting aggressive.
And just received:
She is a beautiful girl who seems to like puppies.
Unfortunately she now has canine upper respiratory infection so they have given me until Thursday afternoon to take her out of the shelter. I have nowhere to put her. I don't think a kennel would take her because of the respiratory condition.
