Some ignorant person threw these 2 puppies over the fence at the Orangeburg SPCA in Orangeburg, SC. They are 11 weeks old and both deaf. The vet says they are double blue merles and that they should be put down. I don't know if because of the genetic factor they can be saved or not but sincerely hope so. Would appreciate any guidance that someone could give me.
Oh No!!!! Two deaf babies only 11 weeks old....double blue merles in Orangeburg, SC....thrown over the fence of the shelter. As if that is not enough abuse in their short lives the vet says they should be put down!! Look at these two beautiful boys......

Deaf dogs are wonderful companions and are just like any other dogs. I am a teacher of the Deaf know many deaf dogs, including having some of my own. There is absolutely no reason for them to be put down unless they have medically related conditions. Deafness is a recessive gene, they should not breed unless you want more deaf dogs. Aussies are smart. All my dogs know sign language, hearing and deaf. Hand signals are taught in most all obedience classes. Owning a deaf dog is one of the most amazing experiences, people please step up to the plate and save these babies!!
ReplyDeleteThese babies deserve the life of a "normal" dog. I have a deaf aussie puppy, who I rescued...she behaves BETTER than many dogs we cross paths with. They are smart, and so gentle.
ReplyDeleteTime for a new vet if that's all s/he can say about deaf puppies. Agreed they shouldn't breed, but my word, what a lifetime of loving companionship these little fellers have to offer!!
