Old man George (12067499) is a 17 year old cockapoo that was
surrendered by his owners because he's old. George has quite a bit of
spunk left in him! He loves attention, is great with handling and
likes other dogs. George does have some health problems, he has
Nuclear Sclerosis, which makes seeing a challenge, he has some dental
tartar and a few growths and may have some arthritis, but none of this
slows George down. George needs rescue ASAP!

SAFE!! KY, Bardstown: "Dimitri", Blind Abused Beagle Mix

Meet Dimitri - He is 22 lbs, about 5 years old. He looks like a Beagle mix. He is solid tan with a long tail. Dimitri is going to need someone who is experienced with rescue dogs who have more than likely been abused. He got off to a rough start, and couldn't even be leashed. However, he has come a long way in a short time and has shown no aggression. He does best on a slip lead as he will wiggle out of collars or harnesses. Once you show him that you are in charge, and that you aren't going to hurt him he will start trusting you. He is now walking on a leash, and has been since the second day. He needs to be socialized, as he is afraid of his own shadow and is very skittish around sudden movements or noises. He loves getting treats and will greet you with a wagging tail. He feels safest in his crate with a blanket, and won't come out even with the door open. He is blind, we are not sure to what degree though. He walks into things, he jumps when you touch him, if walking behind you, he will walk into you, he tries to sniff you out to find you. Even though he will walk on a leash now, when trying to put it on him he gets so scared he poops.

I am hoping a rescue with experience with blind, abused dogs will step up to take him in. He is a good dog, but needs to be worked with. He doesn't seem to like other dogs, but he loves cats and is calmed when he hears them meow. Not sure if a house with kids would be good for him since he is scared by sudden movements. "Trenton" a Completely Blind 5 yr old Border Collie was deliberately turned loose by his heartless owners when they decided "They Didn't Want Him Anymore" and was brought into the shelter by a neighbor.. poor Trenton must be terribly confused and frightened & needs rescue or a home ASAP !!! !!!

Trenton is blind and will be for the rest of his life. He is about 5 years old and was brought in by his owner's neighbor. The neighbor noticed the dog running loose when he was normally kept in a kennel. When they told the owner that he was running loose, they said that they turned him loose because they did not want him anymore.

"Stevie is blind. He hasn't been assessed - so I don't know if its total - but I've met him - and have seen... He is good with other dogs - and he's good with people..I'm not sure how he'd be around young kids - and here's why - he tries to get close to your voice - and jumps to do so.. He only jumps when you are talking to him - and his face is focused in the vicinity of your voice. As such - I can see him inadvertently knocking a small kid over. He is starved for attention. The woman who has him is afraid of him because of this too. =( Stevie is puppy-ish. He needs some manners - but is very smart. He's still a little mouthy - but has bite inhibition. Honestly - it seems like affection - and I've been told he loves to play tug o war and wrestle. You can tell that the woman's son used to wrestle with him. He wants to play SO bad!

Stevie is in South LA - but not a horrible part. My parents still own a home nearby that they rent out. The woman who has him knows that I am busting my hide to get him a better home - so she's being patient so far. She has 2 other dogs that stay in the yard with Stevie - but she wants to bring those two back inside. Stevie isn't allowed inside. It sucks! He's not yet fixed yet - and I know that needs to be done.

Bottom line - the woman who has him wants him gone - but I've convinced her that taking him to the pound would be a death sentence. I speak with her everyday - just to make sure. But - she gets that - and that's not what she wants.

URGENT!! TN, Springfield: "Popeye", Partially Blind Rottweiler/Husky mix

Popeye is blind in one eye, he is a rotti/husky mix. He can only be given to a rescue, and all are full at this time. He needs out of the shelter before they are forced to euthanize. He is approximately 2 years old, and his owner died. He was on a big chain, and girl went to feed him and came up on his blind side and scared him, he did bite. The shelter ACO, said he is wonderful dog, and shows no aggression towards humans or animals. I am attaching his photo’s. Bud is a very sweet 9 year old Shih Tzu. He was surrendered by his owners in deplorable shape. He was so severely matted and his nails so overgrown that he had to be sedated during the grooming process to avoid causing him further discomfort. Despite this, he is a wonderful and affectionate boy who loves people and will gravitate toward the nearest warm lap. He gets along just fine with dogs and cats. He is blind and has some trouble holding his "movements" so puppy pad training might be a good idea for this wonderful little potato. The shelter is open for adoptions 7 days a week from noon to 4:30. Adopted dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped, vaccinated for Distemper, Corona virus and Bordetella and licensed in Lackawanna County.

He has some eyesight problems -- he doesn't seem to be completely blind, because he does see some things, but also walks into walls rather frequently. His main issue though is his back legs, which bother him and make walking a bit difficult. He walks gingerly, but is able to get around on flat ground; he has trouble with any sort of stairs, however, and it was hard for him to get out of his cage for his walk. Joey is an affectionate older gentleman though, and appreciates a good head rub. He has very low energy, but does perk up once he gets outside. I'm sending you this information on a blind 8 month old pit bull puppy at the Woodbridge Animal Shelter in New Jersey. The woman who alerted me to his being at the shelter spent some time with him along with another rescue worker that was there. They said he is a sweet puppy, listens to what you say and knows basic commands like sit, wait and good boy. He did not bark or act out when they met him in the kennel while all of the other dogs were carrying on. When they took him outside he wanted to play but seemed to struggle a bit with following their voices. He had alot of energy the first five minutes after being out of the kennel but then settled down. Once he sensed that they were not going to hurt him he sat on command and let them pet and give him back rubs. He very much enjoyed being petted. He is still a puppy and gets excited when outside of his kennel. The shelter is full so he is URGENTLY in need of help. Please can anyone help him? As you can see, the chow just melted my heart. He was such a lucky man to be picked up. His collar is very wide and thick and it looks like he was tied up with some kind of blue wire. Poor baby!!! His head shot is not that great but he kept wanting to come over to me and we had to hold him back. I think the cataracts in his eyes caused the flash to make his eyes almost white.
