SAFE!! URGENT!! MO, Springfield: "Abby", Blind Pit

I got this from one of the ACOs at Springfield, MO AC today - wanting to forward out in case anyone knows a possible forever home or a rescue able to take her. She has tags but the owner is not coming to get her. We think that if we find a possible home that we will be able to get approval to pull her - since pits aren't usually allowed out of Springfield AC.

Ok, Abby is totally blind but follows your voice very well. She’s about 3-5 years old, very well mannered and sweet. Think she is spayed from the vet in Arkansas where her rabies tag and city id tags are from. Abby wants to be a lap dog--she knows her name very well and responds.

Being a pittie is bad enough in places like Springfield, MO where they are banned. To be blind and rejected by your owner makes it three times as bad. You can tell by her pictures that she feels totally lost and abandoned. Won’t you please help to find Abby a new home? No dog should be treated this way.

SAFE!! URGENT!! MD, Baltimore: "Bubble Gum", Blind Cat

Bubble Gum came into BARCS as a stray and she is the love of my life! Bubble gum is not only blind, but also only has three toes on each hind leg….could this girl be any more special?

Cats are coming into the shelter right and left today ands space is limited…that being said I need to act fast to get this happy feline out to rescue….

Bubble Gum is only TWO months old, and she personally asked me for a home….a home…wouldn’t that be great. I am pretty sure that Bubble Gum wants to be in her new foster home for Halloween so she can dress-up in a costume =)

Please contact me ASAP if your rescue has space…she needs rescue faster then fast…

ADOPTED!! PA, Philadelphia: "Champ", 13yr old Blind Dog

There is a 13 year old blind dog at the PSPCA in Philadelphia named Champ. He has been there for a year. :( This poor old guy LOVES attention and deserves to live out his days in a home, not a shelter. Can anyone help him? He is as sweet as can be.
Champ's story is that he was removed from a house that neglected him. He's very social...just needs time to get his bearings. Animal ID# A09024933. The shelter phone number is: 215-426-6304. Good luck, and let me know what happens! I fell in love with Champ! He deserves the best!!!

STILL NEEDS RESCUE!! CA, Los Angeles: "Reynolds", Blind Dog

We are having issues placing our dog, Reynolds, who was rescued from the Downey Shelter the day he was scheduled to be euthanized. He is partially blind in both eyes, though a fairly young dog (the Vet says he is ~4 years old). Due to his blindness, he can be a bit cantankerous and needs an experienced dog handler. Reynolds is actually a very sweet and loving dog, gets along well with other dogs and doesn't mind cats (though at night, in the dark, he is terrified of them). He is currently staying with me as the manager of the rescue group begged me to foster him as she is nervous the owner will euthanize him as he has nipped a few times. However, the bites are not hard and he never actually goes after someone. The only time he has nipped at me is when I try to take his leash away from him-- he loves chewing and playing with leashes. I really think he just needs some proper training and someone to understand him.

Unfortunately, I am unable to foster Reynolds long term as my tiny apartment does not allow it and I already have three pets. I am also unable to keep the cat separated from Reynolds, which is a problem.

SAFE!! OH, Mount Gilead: "Cada", Blind 6mth old Chocolate Lab

If you can help spread the word about a special needs pup that we have I
would appreciate it.
He is a Chocolate Lab mix, 6 months old, blind and has deformed front legs.
Dr. Carpenter gave it (the deformity) a name but I didn't write it down and
unfortunately I do not remember what it is called.

He is sweet. I think he may know sit but I am not sure if he did it as a
result of my command or because he was tired and wanted to sit down. He
eats and drinks fine and uses the potty outdoors. He was in his kennel all
night here and did not have any accidents.

He needs a special home and I will
not release him to just anyone.

SAFE!! EXTREMELY URGENT!! MD, Baltimore: "Mark", Blind Chesapeake Bay Retriever

Mark came into BARCS as a stray. He is so lovable and his
disability doesn’t hold him back a bit. He was roaming the streets of
Baltimore; just looking for a friend to hang-out with when a man found him.
Unfortunately we haven’t been able to find his owners, and we are really
full at the shelter (aka he needs to get into a rescue ASAP!). This guy is
only 8 years old and active as anything…

Mark loves people and only wants to hang out with people 24 /7.
It is so hard to walk by his cage because he is so excited for attention and
just isn’t getting adopted. I love this dog!

*Name:* Mark

*Sex:* Male

*Neutered:* yes

*Vaccinations:* yes

*Lovable and big bear*: YES!

*Healthy*: yes, but he appears to be completely blind

If you rescue has room for a gentle man with a slight disability…please let
me know as soon as possible!

FL, Jax: "Madison", Blind Chocolate Lab

Here are some pictures of Madison. She is almost 6 years old and around 87lbs. She got glaucoma in one eye in October and lost her sight in the one eye. 6 months later she lost sight in her other eye. She is potty trained, does not require a crate and has the sweetest demeanor. We have a small child who is on the move and while Madison is blind, she is very excitable as all labs are and she has knocked our child over on several occasions because she is so excited and obviously cannot see. We just feel like she needs to be in a home that is not as active. She is great with kids though, even blind.

NO LONGER AVAILABLE!! KY, Boyd County: Blind and Deaf Dog

I have this old gal at my pound. She is about nine years old - mostly deaf - and I believe blind. As you can see, she just stands and stares at the 'wrong' side of her run. The pound workers say she is cool - and gentle. We LOVE her at AARF. She is a bigger dog at about 55 lbs.

SAFE!! URGENT!! OH, Gallipolis: Blind and Partially Deaf Senior Aussie

This boy was dumped at the shelter. Jean, the asst dog warden estimates him at 10-11 years old—he has barely any sight and barely any hearing. His teeth are whiter than they would have guessed and there is a broken tooth on one side. They are feeding him soft puppy food so he can get adequate nourishment.
This boy is a very gentle sweet soul –never reactive or jumpy due to his handicaps. Both wardens want to try to save him. The dog wardens believe he was dumped simply because of his age and limited senses. He is on the small side around 45 lbs and has no tail.

RESCUED!! VA, Abingdon: "Sampson", Blind Pitbull

I recently found a approx. 2 year old BLIND pitbull. I am in desperate need of help. I have 21 rescue dogs of my own that live on my farm. I have several blind dogs and elderly dogs and attempted to bring this one home to at least foster him. He is extremely gentle and loving towards people but seemed very defense around my dogs, and I could not chance him hurting or killing one of my other disabled animals. I have him at a local vet, to be neutered, and all his shots. They have agreed to keep him until the week before thanksgiving but then if he does not have a home he will be put down. I can not bear this. He is great dog and can not help that he was born with blindness as a birth defect. Please if any one can help me. I have named him Sampson for the Biblical guy who was very strong but lost his eye sight. If no one can help if you can please send me names of anyone else you might know off. I refuse to give up on this dog yet. Thank you so much.

SAFE!! CA, Los Angeles: "Dulce", Blind Golden Retriever

Golden used for breeding out of time and losing her eyesight...
This 6 year old Golden Retriever was left heavily pregnant and tied outside of a vet's office in Tijuana last January. She seemed to have been used for consistent breeding and the vet's office believed she was dumped because she was losing her eyesight, and so her usefulness, due to cataracts. The vet's office cared for her through the end of the pregnancy and then placed her 9 surviving puppies in adoptive homes once they were 8 weeks old. Momma was left behind and has been living on a small patio ever since, patiently waiting and hoping for a home of her own. There are other dogs on the patio and she silently and gracefully puts up with their bullying. I received an urgent e-mail yesterday from a friend with contacts in Tijuana who let me know that this momma's time was up. The vet's office could no longer care for her on that patio and she was going to die on Friday. I couldn't let that happen. I have found a wonderful foster for her and I have arranged transport to Los Angeles but I need to raise the money for her to see an eye specialist and for her treatment. If it's only cataracts she does not need to go blind. She's been through enough. She doesn't even have a name so I'm going to call her Dulce for how very sweet she is.
A Dog's Life Rescue is working with me to get this girl to safety and then see what can be done to help her eyesight. Already she has lost 50% of it and so action needs to be taken quickly. If you are able to donate towards this girl or help us network her we really appreciate it.

If you can help Dulce, please contact:

Lisa Parker

"I managed to get Dulcie (now named Lulu) to Los Angeles and into a foster home here. I volunteer with a local rescue called A Dogs's Life Rescue and they are trying to help. RESCUED!! GA, Monticello: "Beau", Blind Senior Bloodhound

Beau is about 10 years old, has dry eye, and is blind. He is such a good boy though. Please don't let this stop someone from giving this old guy a good home for the rest of his life. He is healthy otherwise. He eats well. He is very quiet. Loves attention. Never messes up his kennel. He was found laying by a dumpster and the people thought he was about to die. He was just napping come to find out. General adoption fees for dogs are $25 and for cats are $15. If the animal comes into the shelter spayed or neutered the fee for a dog is $50 and for a cat is $40. It is mandatory that every animal be spayed or neutered. You will receive a health record with each and every pet. There is no application process.

SAFE!! New Mexico, Gallup: Blind Puppy

Hi, I'm fostering a blind puppy for the Gallup Humane Society in Gallup New Mexico. He, his mom and his siblings were dropped off by an owner who didn't want them. He's learning how to deal with his disability quite well and comes running when we call him. I'd love to place him with a family who could raise him and make him an inside dog. He's a real lover. He's about 6 weeks old now and is eating more or less on his own. Tomorrow his siblings will be shipped out for adoption, but he and his mom are staying here. I wonder if you can help us with this pup?

I realize that while it'd be fine to keep him, I don't think we can keep him because we have pretty severe allergies so he couldn't be a indoor dog, and with his disability I'm thinking he needs to be an indoor dog. (He's doing fine outside now though and is inside sometimes). I'm attaching a picture. He's about six weeks old, and is doing great. He comes when called, and loves to just follow you around. He's nearly weaned already, and certainly will be ready to go to a forever home in a couple weeks. People that are interested can contact me at 505-728-7883. I'm in Gallup New Mexico and my name is Katrina Marti. They could also correspond with me at this email address katrina_marti@yahoo.ca.

SAFE!! NC, Charlotte: "Keiko", Blind Akita

Hello Rescue Partners!

Keiko has Bilateral Microphthalmia, which is a developmental disorder of the eye that literally means small eye (micros = small; ophthalmos = eye) and it means that she is blind. She was surrendered to the shelter by her newest owner after being with the family for one week. She did not like their dog and their children made her nervous. What she needs is an owner who understands a blind dog.

She has a chip that I am researching . It appears that Keiko came from a “breeder” in Tx who has a full time business at a flea market selling puppies. She is listed as an Akita. I am trying to track how she ended up in NC, but we shall see. She is a very happy dog who has adapted well to her condition. If you have room and time, please consider pulling her.

SAFE!! URGENT!! AL, Etowah Co: Deaf American Bulldog getting sick in shelter

Meet Jackson, a deaf American Bulldog at a shelter in Etowah County, AL. He passed his temperament test with flying colors and needs a home ASAP! He is getting sick at the shelter.

Jackson was picked up as a neighborhood stray, but the community didn't call him in because he was a nuisance - they called him in because the other dogs were beating him up all the time! He has some scarring on his face and needs a little medical TLC.

He is a sweet boy who I just fell in love with and want to save. He will not fare well if left at the shelter much longer. Please - rescues, fosters, adopters - help me get this boy out and find him a home!

I have more pictures and info if needed. Any help will be appreciated!
