URGENT!! IN, Terre Haute: "Pixie" and "Trixie", One dog Blind

Please rescue folks, consider them. In the Terre Haute shelter. These two are urgent and need rescue. Shelter says "Pixie and Trixie--These two females are Spayed 10 year old lab/cocker X siblings. Relinquished due to a divorce. Trixie's eyes have been removed! Per the owner, they are good with dogs, cats & kids. Pixie can jump a 6 foot fence--but doubt she would leave Trixie. They have lived their entire lives with these people who dumped them at the shelter." They mentioned that Pixie is Trixie's eyes and they have got to stay together.

If you can help Pixie and Trixie, please contact:

KY, Leitchfield (Grayson Co): "Heidi", Deaf Australian Shepherd

I know Heidi's owner, and here is what she told me. First of all, Heidi was brought to us by animal control because she bit her owner. Not knowing all of the details, we approached Heidi we figured she was deaf because she lay so still and did not look up at our approach.

We approached her gently and calmly, and she was eager for us to pet her and hold her. She was frightened when we tried to loop a leash over her, so we let it go.

When her owner came to check on her and surrender her, I learned Heidi's story. The lady's brother first had Heidi, and when she chased his chickens, he beat her and said get her out of here or I'm going to kill her (even the woman admits her brother is not a nice person to animals). She took Heidi home and has kept her inside and she goes out to her fenced yard off leash. She thinks Heidi is between 3 and 4 years old. On Friday, she noticed that Heidi had fallen/jumped off the bed and was staggering and she thought he was having a seizure. When she grabbed Heidi, it scared her, and she bit the woman on the end of her index finger rather severely. She said that she had never seen behavior like this in her before and would take her back home except she is concerned something similar could happen to her grandchildren.

She loves Heidi and does not want anything bad to happen to her. If you think you have room to help this sweet girl, please contact us (email preferred at this time). Heidi is not spayed but we can get that done for around $50. She thinks Heidi can see some but is probably partially blind also. I also think she would handle a harness well and will be trying that.

Transportation is available. I will be driving to the northeast the weekend of Oct. 2/3 and would prefer to bring her rather than try a hand off transport. We could drive to other locations as needed.

CA, Los Angeles: "Butler", Partially Blind AMAZING American Bulldog/American Staffordshire Terrier mix.

Pet's Name: Butler
Location: Los Angeles, CA (Southern CA)
Contact Information: Molly's Mutts and Meows 310-837-MUTT
www.MollysMuttsAndMeow.org for adoption application
Description:
Good with people
Good with kids
Good with cats
Good with other dogs
Great age - around 4 years old

Energetic in a FUN way! We want the person(s) who adopt him to be active, like to walk, hike, play ball, etc.
Butler has a perfect disposition. He does have retinal degeneration, so he has lost about 50% of his sight. We took him to the ophthalmologist at City of Angels. He will probably go blind at some point, but dogs adapt to blindness way better than people do. We have also had 2 TPLO surgeries for torn ACL's (anterior cruciate ligaments) on his hind legs. He is recovering like a champ. We would love to see Butler go to a home with a back yard. He loves his yard, the porch, sunbathing, etc. But he also loves the sofa, TIVO, the kitchen cats, dogs, people, etc. Butler is a special dog and we sure would love to talk to you more about him. His foster mom and dad are completely smitten with him. We want his home to be as special as he is.
You can tell by looking at him he's an American Bulldog/American Staffordshire Terrier mix.
One other thing you should know about Butler: When we first rescued him, we noticed he had a hard time keeping food down. He would regurgitate a bit after eating or drinking. So we took him to a specialist. He has a small problem with his esophagus. Nothing serious...but the specialist recommended he eat his meals slightly elevated to help him keep food down. So his foster parents bought Butler a Bailey Chair. You can read all about Bailey Chairs right here: http://petprojectblog.com/archives/dogs/megaesophagus-and-the-bailey-chair/ He is sooo good about eating in this and it has helped him tremendously. We will give the family that is lucky enough to adopt Butler this Bailey Chair.

SAFE!! FL, Lauderdale: "Carmen", Blind

Carmen was pulled from a high kill shelter at the last minute a couple of weeks ago. She is blind, was severely neglected and was on the "to be killed" list. I pulled her out - she has been fully vetted. She has been at the vets office for two weeks and is now ready for a home or rescue. She is beginning to get depressed and just wants to be touched. Is there any way you can help? Carmen is in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She is soooo sweet and would make someone a great friend.

She was pulled from Miami Dade Animal Services - she has been in quarantine for over two weeks - she is fully vetted - She is a senior and just likes to sleep a lot -she doesn't bark and only wants to be touched...very sweet disposition....just needs somewhere peaceful where she can live out her days with some love. She was apparently a owner surrender - they think about 16 years old. I guess the owner decided it was her time to die since she can not see - SHAMEFUL

"Hi...Carmen was adopted into a forever home"

SC, Greenwood: Partially Blind Bulldog

He is blind in one eye. If you can help him please contact Melissa Brown at mbrown@gwdhumanesociety.org
Also, if you don't mind please let me know if you are able to help him as well.

I've tried contacting a number of rescues to get this poor guy some help and keep coming up empty! Please, if you have any contacts that may be able to help this guy forward this email along! As of today I've learned he's HW+, being dewormed, on antibiotic for a stomach issues (I wasn't told what he has) and being bathed because he's suffering from a flea allergy. I've asked (repeatedly) about his temperament with other dogs and when his time will be up, but haven't heard back from Melissa.

VA, King William: "Charles", Blind baby Beagle

This cute little 11 week old beagle is blind and in a shelter in rural VA.

I'm told he's a little scared at the shelter when he is alone but happy when he is with people. He really is looking to be with someone. He would do great with another dog. He won't find an adopter at the shelter and they are very full right now so my guess is this cutie doesn't have much time.
Regional Shelter in King WIlliam is very rescue friendly. So if anyone can help this adorable, sweet dog, please contact them. THANK YOU!

IL: "Walter", Blind and Diabetic

The foster family was no longer able to care for Walter, and he is living in a kennel at a shelter in Illinois. Is he a dog you would be able to help?

I'm Walter, and I'm a really special guy. I am housebroken, I love to play with my squeaky ball, and I get along great with other dogs. However, in my case, being special also means that I have special needs. I have diabetes, which means that I must be on a restricted and monitored diet, and I must receive shots twice a day along with continued vet care. In addition, my diabetes caused me to lose much of my eyesight, although I still have some vision. And my hips aren't in great shape, so I can't handle stairs too well. But hey, I don't let these problems keep me from enjoying life. Like I said, I can play ball if it doesn't roll too far, and I love hanging out with my foster family's Beagle. In fact, I LOVE her and definitely recognize the jingle of her dog tags. I also love sharing affection with humans. I think it's great when Foster Mom lies down next to me on the floor, and when she pets me I rub my head against her. I am SOOOOO happy to see her when she comes home; my tail just wags and wags. So I'm hoping with all my heart that there is someone out there who is also special … someone who has the extra love and dedication required to make a special-needs boy like me a part of their family. Like Foster Mom says, “The love Walter gives more than makes up for the extra work.”

URGENT!! FL, Homestead: "Herman", Blind Beagle

This is Herman. He is three years old and is blind. We believe his blindness was induced by neglect/abuse. His owner has trashed him with a weak excuse and he is currently living with the owner's aunt who does not like dogs. He is used to living inside, but has been made to live outside! We are not guaranteed that the aunt will not take him to a shelter at this time, so time is of the essence. He is reportedly extremely sweet and as is typical with special needs dogs, has a seemingly "grateful" disposition. Thank you for your help. We need to get him out of there.
