SAFE!! EXTREMELY URGENT!! LA, Lafayette: "Andre", Blind Rat Terrier Mix

.jpg)
*** VERY URGENT!! PLEASE CROSS-POST!!! ***
URGENT IN LAFAYETTE, LOUISIANA: This is Andre, a very special little blind (and, possibly, hearing impaired) Rat Terrier mix. The shelter estimates that this sweet, smart little guy is only about 18-months old. Please see his attached photos, and read his story posted below.
Little Andrea is currently being housed at the Lafayette Animal Control Center in Lafayette, Louisiana. He is a staff favorite, but this is a high-kill shelter and poor little Andre is currently on borrowed time.
If you are able to help sweet little Andre, please don't wait! Call Linda Barbaro, ASAP!!

PLEASE READ LITTLE ANDRE'S STORY:
My name is Linda Barbaro. Deborah is my friend and fellow rescue volunteer. I asked her to see if she could help me get a rescue for Andre.
Andre is at Lafayette Animal Control Center (LACC) in Lafayette, Louisiana. He has been at the shelter since May 24, 2010 and it is important that he be placed ASAP. I don't have a set time line but I know he has been there TOO long. He has touched the hearts of the Vet, the Staff and Volunteers there. However, LACC is a kill shelter.
His age is est. at 18 mos. He is thought to be Rat Terrier mix. He weighs 14 pounds. I don't even know how to make you understand how sweet he is. Andre is just one of the most loving animals I have ever met. He smells your hand through the kennel door and rolls over to get a belly rub (showing total submission). I took him out yesterday and he just cuddles into you.
There is some question as to his ability to hear. Sometimes he seems to hear certain pitches of sound. Maybe he just feels vibration. Blind and Deaf? He is amazing to watch. He maps out the play yard and then knows where he is and where he wants to go. He does not snap or growl at people or other dogs. The shelter does vaccinations but he is not neutered and has not been tested for heart worms as far as I know. He seems to be quite healthy. He was a stray picked up with 2 other dogs. His owner never came for him.
Please do what you can for the sweet dog that is so in need of rescue. He deserves to live, to have the chance to give his love to his very own human. I know there is someone just waiting for him.

TN, Knoxville: Deaf Pyr/Husky mix

The owner of this gorgeous pup does not feel he has a safe environment to keep him in anymore. He is looking for a good home for this dog.
I adopted a Great Pyrenees/Husky mix in March from the Union Co Animal Shelter. After a week or so, I came to realize he is totally deaf. I live and work in my pottery shop in the Arts and Crafts Community just outside of Gatlinburg, TN. With traffic in an out of my parking lot all day, this is not a safe environment. He is 6 months old and weighs about 35-40 pounds. He is friendly and enjoys being around people. Any help or suggestions is appreciated.

OH, Mineral Ridge:"Koti", Blind Japanese Chin

Koti is a Japanese Chin that was left at a kill shelter in the Cincinnati area during the winter most likely due to his vision loss. Initially, our vet diagnosed him with glaucoma. However, we took him to see a veterinary ophthalmologist and he was diagnosed with PRA - progressive retinal atrophy, which I actually considered to be good news over the glaucoma. Koti is incredibly sweet and loving, he's just blind and has no other health issues.

Benny is a good boy in need of a foster or forever home.

He likes to sleep alot. All he needs is a nice pillow and he is happy.
He was a matted mess when turned in by family no longer willing to take care of him so he was shaved. His fur is growing in and he is looking good !

Opossum is a special little guy! He came in as part of the litter of other Australian Shepherd/ Great Pyrenees we have here at the shelter. But... Opossum is both deaf and blind. One of our staff members and her family have been fostering Opossum for the two weeks since he was brought in. He has been living in a home with other dogs with whom he gets along with very well. He absolutely loves playing outdoors and is just as adventurous as any other puppy. Opossum will need special training throughout his life, which will require time, effort and money. He is very intelligent and funny. He is very affectionate and promises to bring lots of love and joy to your life!

OH, (Central): "Blitzen", Partially Blind Siberian Husky

This is Blitzen. He's a red & white Siberian husky. He is around 10years young. He still has all the spunk and energy of a younger baby.He is blind in his left eye. He loves to be around people, rides greatin the car, seems to be housebroken. I'm told he was an inside dog,but was put outside 4 years ago. He and his two "brothers" were allbrought to the pound. They didn't mix well with the farm animals. Arescue pulled the other two boys, but wouldn't take blitzen. He wasliterally within minutes of being euthanized when my husband and Ipulled him.
I am not a rescue (that might come in the future, who knows). This boy's story just touched my heart. Unfortunately my dogs are 1 and 2 and are much too rambunctious for Blitzen since he can't always see them coming. It seemed to make him nervous. The pound did say he got along with dogs, but with thecircumstances we haven't really tried it. I don't want him to gethurt if my boys come bounding across the yard on his blind side.
If you can help Blitzen, please contact:

NY, Rome: Maggie, Partially Blind Rottweiler

A wonderful Rottweiler named Maggie was surrendered to the humane society by her family.
She is a 4 year old (soon to be spayed) female who is people & dog friendly. (She doesn't seem to mind cats either)
She is blind in one eye & has low vision in the either eye, which will gradually result in total blindness.
The animal hospital evaluated her vision (not extensively though) but I don't know her exact diagnosis. (I can check w/ shelter staff)
Maggie has been at the humane society for 3 weeks, during which time she has participated in adoption events & handled everything very well.

KY, Bowling Green: Scotch, Partially Blind Beagle mix

Intake Date: 6/18
Intake type: Owner Surrender, Moving
Approximate Age: 3 years
Housetrained? Perfectly!!!
Great with children, dogs, and even cats!!
Known health issues: Partially blind
Scotch has one of those stories that truly pains your heart. His life has been nothing but a rollercoaster of changes and struggles. Scotch was born partially blind in his right eye. He was then sold to his previous owners at the flea market for just $10, unlike his brothers and sisters who were sold for much more because they were considered normal. Sadly, this was not the end of Scotch's troubles. When he was just a year old, he was attacked by a neighbor dog. Though he survived, he lost the vision in left eye but was able to keep the eye itself. Now, his owners have decided not to take him when they moved and he is here, alone and scared. Yet each time we see this gorgeous boy, he greets us with a wagging tail and tongue-hanging-out kind of smile. Through all of these troubles, it seems that Scotch has never lost his positive outlook and his ability to give unconditional love. Scotch is really such a special boy!! He even knows multiple tricks!! He knows how to sit, shake, go to bed, get your bone, down, and lay down. Isn't that amazing for a dog that is partially blind?? His previous owners said that he LOVES children of any age and adores receiving any type of attention. He is a very energetic boy who will play with toys for hours and hours. He adapts to his environment well as he uses his nose and hearing to move around. We believe that he can see some including large objects and shadows. At his previous home, he did not have supervision during the day, thus we believe that after just a little time, he would be the same at his new home as well. As much as this amazing dog has made it through, we can't stand to see him stay here, confused and behind bars. Please give this great boy a chance to have the forever home he has always deserved but never known!!
!!!! Scotch is sponsored! He can now go home fully vetted for only $45 as well as a bag of food and a month of flea/tick preventative. !!!

GA, Americus: Inez, Partially Blind 10 week old Pointer mix

Inez needs to be rescued ASAP!
This precious girl is around 10 weeks old and we believe she may be a pointer mix. She is very sweet but has had a rough start in life. She came in with lots of scabs, bald spots, ticks, worms, and we think she is completely blind in one eye. She has had several medicated baths, been on antibiotics and eye ointment, and has been wormed. Inez is so sweet and loving. She likes people, other pups(though she has only seen them through the cage), and toys. She is a great girl and deserves a chance to have a real life. If anyone can help her please contact me.
