Angel was turned to a kill shelter by her owner 3 months ago. She is three years old and spayed. She was attacked and blinded by her her father. Angel has no sight in left eye and limited vision in her right eye. She is good on a leash and knows basic skills. She is fine with other dogs, is as of yet untested with cats. She loves to play ball. Angel has until Friday when she will be gassed to death. North Carolina Rottweiler Rescue is in desparate need of foster homes to save Angel and dogs like her. North Carolina Rottweiler Rescue will pay for spay/neuter, vaccinations, required medical care and may be able to provide a crate if needed. If you would like to foster Angel and save her life, please contact:

Hi! My name is Champ and I'm a senior dog looking for a very special home. Since I have trouble seeing, I get startled when someone approaches me suddenly or doesn't give me a chance to get used to new things. Therefore, I would be more comfortable in a home withoutout small children or other active pets. I would appreciate a home with lots of experience with senior dogs and a patient, kind human to spend my golden years with. Hey! I do have my fun side... just show me a tenniis ball! I would just love to cuddle with my own special human. Is that you?

Meet Honey.. Honey is a local celebrity in Roanoke, and her story has been featured on the news! Honey is a about a year old and is medium sized, weighing in at about 40lbs. She gets along well with other dogs and has really come out of her shell since first coming to the SPCA. She would do best in a home with another dog, but with no cats, as she has a very high interest in them. Since these pictures were taken, Honey has had an eye removed that was causing her discomfort. She has been at the SPCA since February, and the poor girl really deserves a home to call her own, complete with a great family to love her. If you can give that to sweet Honey,

This adorable little boy is Tova (Animal ID# A366832). He is only 9 lbs, and shelter staff thinks he is about 3 years old. This poor baby was abandoned in the doorway of the shelter, without so much as a note. Tova is HW+ and is also missing one eye, so he will need a rescue, or someone experienced in special needs dogs, to take him in and care for him. Everyone that meets him says he's just the sweetest little baby, and he's obviously adorable. If you can help save Tova's life,

This young chow mix was picked up as a stray on 5/20, and is currently residing in a kill shelter in Canton, Ohio. Sadly, not much is known about this poor boy, except for the fact that he is blind. We do know that if he is rescued/adopted, he will be neutered and given a rabies shot. If you can help rescue this boy,

This sad old boy is Yuma. He is an unaltered male, tan Pekingese, and is currently at the Ventura County Animal Regulation (VCAR). This poor baby has been at the shelter since 4/30. Since he is 13, and is missing an eye, Yuma is frequently passed over by potential adopters. His time is running out, and he has a very slim chance of making it out of this shelter alive. A volunteer at VCAR had this to say about poor Yuma, "Every time I see this dog's photo or when I'm at the shelter, it makes my heart hurt... 13 years old and only one eye, his chances at being adopted by the general public are pretty low unless we in the rescue community get busy and start networking him...I'm reminded of the motto, 'If not I, then who?'....
At his age, he shouldn't be sitting in a kennel run, but up on someone's couch or in a cushy, warm doggie bed... Let's get BUSY!!!"

This is Ernie. Ernie is an amazing 7yr old Dobie mix. Due to his untreated diabetes, he is blind. His owner died and no one in the family wanted him and he was sent to the pound. He was rescued on the day he was to be euthanized and this special boy is now looking for a new forever home. He’s about 50lbs, neutered, healthy and UTD on his shots. He’s fully house-trained (he even lets himself out through the doggy door!) and gets along great with other dogs. He also does well with kids.
If you’d like to open your heart and your home to this special treasure of a boy,
This adorable little girl is Helen. Poor Helen is at a high kill shelter and her time is running out. She is at least almost blind; one eye appears to be missing under the crust, probably already blown. The other is white, and it's unknown whether she can see out of that one at all. She is very sweet, docile, and loving, with a wonderful temperament in spite of her infirmity. Judging by her teeth, this little girl is only a couple of years old. She most likely has not had an easy life thus far. She deserves a great home that understands her special needs and appreciates her for the sweet, wonderful dog that she is. She looks like a Shiba Inu mix, and weighs around 35lbs. Her euthanazia date is 5/27, so she has very little time left. If you can help Helen,

This is Ray Charles. He's currently residing at a high kill shelter in Atlanta, Georgia. Being that he is a pit mix, and blind on top of it, his chances of being adopted are slim to none. He is a shelter favorite because he's so sweet and mellow. The quote below is what a shelter staff member had to say about this darling boy,
"I have attached pics of my new love, mr ray charles. he is about a year old and blind as a bat. he is good with cats (he's spent all day in the office with me and he pays them no mind whatsoever except for smelling them). he's dog social, too. he is a little submissive and as sweet as can be. he just wants to give kisses and lay in laps. he may also be house-trained. he was in the office with me for about 6 hours and never had an incident--he waited until we took him outside to go to the bathroom... He is so sweet and an incredibly special dog. if anyone can assist, please do. the only thing worse than being a pit bull at the pound is being a special-needs pit bull at the pound."
Here is what another rescuer has to say about Ray Charles, "Oh my gosh this is the sweetest dog in the world! I met him today at Fulton AC, he is a love bug! He was in the adoptions room with the cats and was the sweetest. Please give him a chance, as he is special needs."
Please don't let this great dog die because he was born the "wrong" breed.

We are looking for a foster for Charlie, a 12 year old schnauzer whose owner must travel for work and cannot treat his diabetes on a regular basis because of this. Stevie ran out of time and was sent to the rainbow bridge today; way too early. May this girl know the peace there that she didn't know in life.
This poor girl is Stevie. Stevie is around 9yrs old, and was surrendered to the shelter as a stray. Stevie is completely blind but that doesn't stop her from being a wonderful, happy dog. Even though she's blind and considered a senior, she is still full of life and vigor. The shelter staff describes Stevie as, "high spirited and full of life..." and, "very friendly and sweet." She really needs a rescue to pull her ASAP, as she will be euthanized first because she is blind. The shelter can help with the vaccinations, and will also help out with the transport if a rescue steps forward. Please help Stevie if you can. She is most likely in a lot of pain due to the condition of her eyes and needs help NOW. If you can safe this girl's life,

Meet Animal # 291. This sweet boy with no name is currently residing in a shelter in Georgetown, Ohio, and he doesn't have much time left. All that's known about him is that he's an unaltered male shar-pei, he weighs 42 lbs, has vision impairment, possible hearing loss, and he came into the shelter as a stray. He was brought in on May 13th, and the shelter only holds strays for 3 days before they're eligible for adoption or euthanasia. A shelter volunteer had this to say about him, "I'm pretty sure this boy is both deaf and blind...Just a sweetie tho... loves to have his head rubbed. He has no chance of being adopted here..."

Meet Cici. She is a 5 year old, sweet, loyal, super friendly German Shepherd. She is absolutely gorgeous, and because of this, Cici was used for breeding for a few years of her life. Even though she was a wonderful mom, she was spayed after coming to the shelter, and she is also up to date on all her vaccines. Cici is a perfectly healthy, "normal" shepherd, except for the fact that she's blind. Although she can't see much, her blindness hasn't stopped her from being the wonderful, happy dog that she is. She's extremely smart and will have no problem learning the layout of your home, or letting you know when she has to go out. She will need some guidance when walking on a leash, however, as she will be trusting you to make her aware of any obstacles in her path. Cici gets along with everyone, but she would do best in a home with older children. She would likely do fine with another calm dog, or a calm cat who can respect her space. If you are interested in helping CiCi, please bring your whole family (including your dog), with you when you come to meet her. To inquire about Cici,

This adorable little boy is Rufus. He is a 9 month old, 5lb, blind, Yorkshire Terrier, and he's currently in a rescue in Alabama. As cute as Rufus is, he does have some behavioral issues, and he will need a very patient, dedicated person to foster/rescue him. Apparently, Rufus is quite vocal, and he barks often. He has been adopted and returned 3x because his new owners couldn't deal with his behavior. His barking is mostly likely due to the fact that Rufus is blind and scared, and since he doesn't understand how to cope with his blindness, he barks to express his anxiety. As irritating as it may be, with dedication and persistence, Rufus CAN be trained to sit quietly. Sadly, his barking has scared away so many potential adopters/fosters, the rescue is concerned that at this point he's unadoptable. If you can find it in your heart to see past Rufus' tough exterior and save the sweet soul underneath, please contact:

Meet Marcus...Marcus came into the shelter as part of a seizure. He's been there a while now and needs desperately to find a home. There was an issue with his eyes, and recently he was examined by a vet. The vet said Marcus, who is 1 year old, was born blind. He doesn't have a medical condition that can be treated, but has been blind from birth. He compensates very well with his other senses and walks well on a leash smelling as he goes. Marcus is black and grey in color and very smart. He can learn quickly through his other senses.
A woman who works in rescue had this to say about him, "I personally met this dog when I visited the shelter and I had absolutely no idea he was blind. Also his picture doesn't do him justice. His coat is mainly Black with specks of gray running through it and he has the cutest gait!"
Can you help Marcus get out of the shelter and into a good home before his time runs out? If so, ContaCt:

This adorable boy with the smiling face is Stevie. Stevie is a 2-3 yr old, neutered, male Black Lab, and he weighs 108 pounds. He was picked up as a stray on 4-16-10, so not much is known about this darling boy's past. What we do know, though, is that despite being blind, Stevie is tolerant, friendly and outgoing. He even knows the command, "sit"! The shelter would like Stevie to be placed with an experienced dog owner; and they would also prefer that he doesn't go to a family with children under the age of 10. A rescue group would be more than welcome to adopt this sweet boy if they have a possible placement for him.

This sweet little yellow lab puppy is very young, but has had a pretty hard life so far. He has been abandoned twice during the short time that he's been alive, most likely due to his blindness. First someone took this puppy to a vet, then decided they no longer wanted him, and left him there after the vet was closed. Things were looking up for this little sweetie when the vet tech working there decided to take him home. However, she decided that she no longer wanted him either, and she dropped him off at a kill shelter without any explanation. This poor baby is scared, confused, and living in blackness in a high kill shelter. In spite of it all, he's a happy little guy, and enjoys eating his wet food. He really needs to be pulled by a rescue or someone willing to take him to the vet and get him some help. He won't be getting the care he needs in the shelter that he's in, and he's just a baby.

This sweet, female 12 year old cocker spaniel was found as a stray in Canton, Georgia. She was most likely abandoned by her owners as nobody stepped up to reclaim her. She is extremely sweet, housebroken, and desperately needs your help. This little girl must be rescued by closing on Friday, May 7th, or she WILL BE EUTHANIZED!! Please don't let this sweet little girl's life end prematurely in a shelter. If you can rescue this princess and give her the life she deserves,
Please refer to this girl by her ID#26182 when contacting.
The shelter is killing these old dogs quickly. Please help this one! Owner abandoned, blind and deaf, to the shelter - said it was too old. They just killed an old Chow at Castaic this morning that was supposed to be available until 5/8 - rescuer was calling to go get it and found out. I am listed as an IP on this dog with notes that we are networking, but we cannot rescue. Can anyone get this dog out and into a safe and comfortable place for her remaining days?
Heigl has pledged $200 to a 501c3 rescued. You must contact Pat at Heigl before you pull the dog.
(senior Chow at Castaic is the 3rd senior dog that rescue has tried to save and each one was euthanized the day she planned to go get it!)

Unfortunately Keno ran out of time before anyone stepped forward to rescue her. WE'll see you at the Bridge, beautiful girl.
This beautiful, unique looking dog is Keno. She is a 2 yr old Australian Cattle Dog Mix and weighs about 58 lbs. Although Keno is mostly blind, she gets around extremely well for a visually impaired dog, and hasn't let her lack of vision affect her wonderful personality one bit. She's a calm, gentle girl, with a very trusting, easy-going attitude. Keno just came into the Jefferson County Animal Shelter as a stray on May 3; however, the shelter she's residing in is a high kill shelter. They can only give her time based upon space available, and the shelter is so full right now, Keno is almost out of time. Sadly, without the help of a rescue or foster, Keno's chances of leaving the shelter alive are extremely slim.
Keno received DHPP, Bordatella, and Strongid for deworming upon intake. If she travels out-of-state, she will receive a rabies vaccination and health certificate.
The shelter is located in southern Indiana...1 hour from Louisville KY, 1 1/2 hours from Cincinnati OH, and 2 hours from Indianapolis IN. They take part in transports that run most weekends, and head north on I-65 to the Chicago area. If you are along this route, help with transport may be available from the shelter.

This handsome, silly boy is Horton...Horton looked like a little mop when he arrived at the shelter. Now he's all trimmed up, looking handsome, and ready to go to a new home. He is completely blind, and needs a little extra guidance through doorways when we take him outside. However, he absolutely loves to get out for a walk, has plenty of pep in his step, and just enjoys being a dog. He loves rides in the car and is housebroken. Horton is also compatible with other dogs. Horton will be spayed/neutered, microchipped, vaccinated for Distemper, Corona virus and Bordetella and licensed in Lackawanna County before he's adopted. Basically all Horton needs now is YOU!

This little girl is 8 weeks old and both blind and deaf. She is living in Hamilton, Illinois with her 4 littermates, whom are all boys; however, this little beauty was the only one with vision and hearing loss. Her brothers are also available for adoption/rescue. She follows her brothers' lead, so she would probably do best in a home with a patient, balanced dog to help her around. They were given a parvo/distemper booster and have been dewormed.

No next of kin came forward to claim her or to offer any information about her. She appears to have been well cared for and loved in the past.
"Sweetie" is now considered urgent. She is out of time at the shelter.
