GA, Monticello: Heart, Am. Bulldog 1 1/2 y/o Urgent

Contact Karen Bryant

jaspercoanimalcontrol@hotmail.com
Monticello, GA
(706) 468-0396

Where is her special person???

Heart is looking for that special someone who will love her, willing to learn to communicate with her, and teach her.

Heart is American Bulldog, about 1 1/2 years to 2 years old, about 60 pounds.

Heart is Hearing Impaired with Hearing in the High Frequencies, i.e., squeaky toys, high-pitched sounds/voices, whistles, clicker, etc.

She loves to play ball, which can be used a reward, and she is food motivated, too.

Heart could be trained as a service dog or therapy dog, hearing dog for a Deaf person, or even a psychiatric service dog. She LOVES PEOPLE, and PEOPLE LOVE HER.

She is very smart, eager to learn, very attentive, sits, and watches you, waiting for her treat.

She is continuing training and learning, and looking for that special someone who will love her and continue to work with her.

A squeaky toy can be used as "clicker", or any other high-pitched noise that's within her level of hearing, and teach her hand signals, as well. A vibration collar can be used like a "clicker" or used as recall, or not at all. Thumbs up sign for "good" along with body language, i.e., happy face, clap hands, etc, can be used. Karen,ACO, has been working with Heart using a squeaky toy and treats, and Heart has responded well. Go this link for good information about clicker training a Deaf dog:http://www.myaussies.com/clicker.html

Go to http://deafdogs.org/training/ andhttp://d2care.org/ for more information about Deaf dogs and training methods, etc. Lots of resources to help you with a Deaf or Hearing-Impaired Doggie. There are several Yahoo groups with 3000+ members who have Deaf dogs, and eager to teach and help you if you choose to adopt this precious girl.

She has been spayed, dewormed, Advantix applied, all vaccinations, DHPP, bordatella, and heartworm negative on 2-22-2010, rabies given on 2-26-2010, and has health certificate.

Comments:
"She's a pretty cool dog."
"She is real clean in her kennel. She hasn't had any accidents."
"She is very smart, learns quickly."
"She has tons and tons of potential."

"She's really grown on me since she's been here. You can tell she just tries to understand what you want her to do. She's learned that if you walk up to her kennel and she barks, you will stop and talk to her. I have to explain to people what she's doing so they don't think she's being mean. It's kind of hard if you're not around a deaf dog very much how different they are. Heart has taught me a lot believe it or not."

"She still doesn't hear me when she's not looking at me and I call her name. I have to use some sort of noise to get her attention. If someone had the time, she would be an absolutely awesome dog. She just needs someone to spend time with her."

She is so smart. When I whistle to her, and get her to come to me I put my hand up and tell her to sit when she gets close to me and then I can lower my hand more and tell her down and she lays down. She is a good girl. I've had no inquiries on her yet.

"Heart is the sweetest, sweetest dog. She doesn't act deaf, but may not hear as well as others, may be hard-of-hearing. She is strong, very loving, likes people, is a lap dog, gives kisses freely, and very friendly."

"I'm glad I got to meet this sweet dog. Don't have a lot of experience with deaf dogs. She was affectionate and generally focused on me during our leg of the trip, leaning her head on my shoulder and asking for pets now and then. She does appear to hear some pitches of sound. Heart was very interested in the livestock, horses and cattle, along the way. With some training, she'll make a great pet for the right home. Lovely (strong) doggie!"

"Heart was a very good passenger. Her head was either on my shoulder or resting between the front seats where I could reach over and scratch her ears. :) She really is so friendly.”

"She likes to ride in the car and enjoys looking out the window. She's really a sweet, sweet dog."

CA, Agoura: Bailey dumped at shelter in CA

Please network to help Bailey find his forever home!
I met Bailey at the Agoura Animal Shelter in Agoura, CA. He really touched my heart. He is so..... sweet and he has this angelic look and way about him. Although he is an old boy, he still has a spring in his step and lots of love to still give. Look at these pictures, he is as cute as they come! He is alert, curious and VERYSWEET, a good natured boy.
His card reads that the owner turned him in on March 12th because their neighbor would not longer feed him while they worked. WHAT????! Another winner! ugh TRULY HEARTBREAKING.
A volunteer has been caring for him but Bailey needs a forever home NOW!
What the vet said about his health:
Deaf
Heart good although slight murmur not unusual in a very senior dog
Teeth okay
Lungs okay
Eyes: does see shadows, eyes are milky, gets around well, does not crash in to anything
Showing signs of kidney disease per the testing so the Vet advised Sub Q Fluids to flush him out for one week and for him to be on K/D food.
He does not recommend euthanasia as he is eating and very perky.
He also had ear infections and a penis infection but those are being treated with meds and he is feeling much better now.
Bailey is being cared for by Robin, a volunteer at the shelter:
Her words about Bailey:
"He is a lovely mellow boy temperament wise, gets along fine with all size and gender of dogs (small at shelter and my three large: rottie, labbie, golden/labbie)."
Please call Robin if you can help sweet Bailey, he deserves to be loved and protected for the rest of his life. I just love this boy!!

NY, Brooklyn: Max Am. Bulldog w/ cataracts in high kill shelter!

Max is a 55 lb Am Bulldog mix. He is about 3 yrs old. He is such a nice boy He has cataracts and may be hard of hearing. I know he hears some things but I don't know how much.
My singing caused some very strange reactions. and sometimes it seems that he is trying so hard to see that he is not listening.

The shelter suspected that he was both blind and deaf and called me.
Since Animal Care and Control has no (I mean it they have vets and can do surgery) but no opthalmoscope I got permission to take him to my vet. He has cataracts. I cannot afford the ERG to see if removing them would help

His pupils dilate, I guess that is good .
Main thing is that he needs to get out of the shelter ASAP He is getting sick and will be on the euth list in a couple days.
he is really really sweet, seems to get along with all. good in the car and was good at the vet. And cuddly
Can anyone help, if so, please contact me

Hi is truly a great little guy
thanks
Harriet

RESCUED! AL, Birmingham: ULTRA URGENT!! 2 labs needing rescue to step forward NOW!

RESCUED! IF YOU CANNOT TAKE THESE DOGS, CROSSPOST TO THE MOON AND BACK! CONTACT IS PAT CHRISTIANS (205) 822-8997 email bpws7878@bellsouth.net

A couple of good Samaritans have offered $500 to the rescue who takes these dogs. We know the male’s eye will need vet care and that both dogs will need basic vetting. I WILL GIVE A SPAY AND A NEUTER CERT TO THE RESCUE WHO TAKES THESE DOGS. So, that’s $500 plus spay/neuter certs. MUST BE 501 c 3 status. BETH BISHOP HAS OFFERED TRANSPORT ASSISTANCE SHOULD THESE DOGS NEED TO GO OUTSIDE THE BIRMINGHAM AREA (we will get them where they need to go). THESE DOGS ARE OUT OF TIME--RESCUE MUST BE FOUND *TODAY*CONTACT IS PAT CHRISTIANS (205) 822-8997 email bpws7878@bellsouth.net

THIS IS AN URGENT CALL FOR RESCUE: if no one steps forward today, I am at a loss as to what to do. You may recall dogs in Center Point on verge of being shot by sheriff. Pat Christians, who fosters for several rescues, generously agreed to hold the dogs until a rescue could be found for them. UNFORTUNATELY, Pat is under extreme pressure to move the dogs IMMEDIATELY (neighbors are unhappy and have contacted authorities). THEY MUST GO TODAY---this is not a false plea for help---these dogs REALLY HAVE TO GO. Right now, their only option is a shelter or Pat will simply have to return them to Center Point and hope the dogs can escape either gun shots or animal control officers.

These are two lab mixes, one appears to be a blonde lab who is missing an eye, the other appears to be a golden retriever mix—likely a chow/retriever mix. Both are still young, probably around a year old. They are the dogs from Center Point the Sheriff ordered to shoot if they could not be caught. THEY NEED RESCUE TODAY---THIS IS EXTREMELY URGENT.

*** URGENT! PLEASE CROSS-POST!! ***

TX, Keller: Lucky Blind Kelpie/Border Collie Mix

Please contact John and Lindsay at 817-607-8987 or email theclevelands@live.com if you can help
PLEASE HELP LUCKY FIND A HOME ...
There is a couple in the Keller area truly needing a home for their blind dog, Lucky. They are hoping someone might see this posting and give him a good home. They tell me he is such a sweet boy and they love him and because they love him, they want him to have a home where someone can play with him and show him the attention he so deserves.
Lucky's mother is an Australian Kelpie/Border Collie mix. Lucky looks like a cuddly teddy bear and is very sweet.

They tell me that they feel they are unable to give Lucky what he needs. They have both Lucky and his mother in a backyard area, that has turned to mud with all the rain and the dogs have not gotten very little attention this year. They especially feel bad for Lucky since they said he loves interaction with people and the dog that is his momma.
The momma dog pays little to no attention to him (she is apparently more of a loner dog), and it is heartbreaking - he is very lonely and it's very sad.
They have had Lucky since birth and he apparently suffered some sort of seizure when he was about two months old and has been blind since then. There has never been another issue of any kind. He is 5 years old (born November 4, 2004) and is very, very sweet.
Loves to be petted and hugged and is very low maintenance. Lucky is already neutered and is wonderful with children and has been around the couple's two daughters that are 3 and 4 years old since they were born.
Please, can anyone help this sweet dog? Ideally, a blind dog can often bond with a seeing dog and do very well. In this case the momma dog is apparently more of a loner, and Lucky is alone and sad. He has many years of happiness and love to give. Can anyone help?
Ideally, he needs a home that can give him this special needs dog love and attention.
Please contact John and Lindsay at 817-607-8987 or emailtheclevelands@live.com Best time to reach them is from 8am to 9pm.

TX, Houston: Little Dog, Cocker Spaniel Mix needs a foster.

I don't have much information on this dog. Here are some excerpts from the messages I've received about her. She is adorable though!

i don't know really much about her, since we found her in a junk yard. she is an older dog and very sweet. will take her for a check up and up date you. she is very sweet and is a lap dog, the moment she hears her name she goes to you and sits in front of you, she is a quick learner as to were stuff is around the house, she even has the stairs mastered going up and down.

*****

small cocker spaniel that was dump in south Houston. She is blind and just had a litter. My husband was able to find home for the puppies. He is trying to find a home for the spaniel. She is so sweet. I already have 3 rescue dogs so I can't take her in. Would you know of somebody that could help her?
I believe Mabel Thorne is the contact for this dog.
****
Update on little girl. She had her shots yesterday and tested positive for heart worm( 1 worm).... She is about 4yrs old, has glaucoma on her right eye and might need to get it removed, also he says she is a king charles spaniel. She weighs 22 lbs and has all the feathery hair on her forehead that king charles spaniels have. She will be fixed in 2 weeks. Other than that she is in good health....

CA, San Francisco Area: Stevie, blind pit mix pup - sweet!

Stevie was taken from the shelter where he was to be euthanized due to his vision problems and kennel stress.
He is an adorable 10-months-old, healthy, ~45 lb pit bull and full of happy energy.
He is:* housetrianed* neutered* utd on shots* microchipped* leash trained* knows basic obedience like "sit" and "down"* good with cats and other dogs

Stevie will need lots of TLC and patience due to the stress he's had going in and out of the shelter and of course because of his vision impairment.
He is people-centered and affectionate, but should not be placed with young children due to his exuberance and difficulty seeing.
Stevie's adopters will be successful if they are confident and experienced with his breed.

TX, Dallas: Blind lil Aussie pup Delilah needs home

If you know of ANYONE who knows anyone that knows anyone…that would be willing or has any experience with blind and/or deaf puppies, this little doll is being fostered at my cousin Jennifer's home-but whatever environment she adapts to would make it harder for her to adapt to something new later on (I told Jen she might be increasing her family…), so if you have a spot for her in your heart and home, please let me know and I'll hook you up. She is blind and deaf-I think about 6-8 weeks old. Australian Shepherd-so pretty big later huh?

What a cutie though…goodness, look at that face!

URGENT: EV-M-966 '

Border Collie

Size: Large Age: Young Sex: Male ID:

Notes:

This sweet dog came in to animal control shelter as a another stray. Another unwanted pet whose family didn't care enough to look for. He was transferred to our facility the day before he was scheduled to be euthanized so he can have little bit more time to find a loving home where he can retire and live happily ever after. He is runnin out if time. Please consider adopting him. Bailey is a great boy who acts like a puppy. Happy and playful. Doesn't have a worry. Affectionate and curious. Not a barker. Gets along with other dogs and loves people. Rides well in cars and leash trained. Very intelligent and adoptable. Easy going!!! After spending sometime with him we had realized he was blind. Its obvious the handicap doesn't limit him or bother him what so ever. However, he does need a special someone who knows how to handle these kind of dogs. He will make a loyal and loving lifetime companion. Wonderful playmate for other dogs. Coat needs regular brushing to stay clean and free of dead hair. Bathe as needed. Daily exercise is needed to keep him happy, healthy and in a top physical and mental shape. Bailey is 1-1/2 to 2 years old and weights 40 lbs. Full grown. The adoption fee on Bailey is $125.00. He is up to date on Distemper/Parvo shots and Rabies vaccination, dewormed (tapeworms, hookworms and whipworms) and he has been heartworm tested (he is negative). He also has been neutered. The adoption fee includes microchip and microchip registration. You will also receive a coupon for free vet check done by a participating veterinarian. If you are interested in saving Bailey's life, please go to our website at www.etowahvalleyhumane.org to apply as soon as possible. NO PHONE CALLS PLEASE. If we receive more then one application for the same dog we will be contacting applicants in the order we receive the applications. We apologize for not being able to contact everyone in timely matter. NOTE: This pet also comes with 30 days of pet health insurance for $1.00. To enroll your new pet or for more information please visit www.sheltercare.com or call 1-866-375-PETS. Enroll within 24 hrs after adoption for coverage. Reno, Na-Sweet, Female Blind Doberman Needs Home

If you love Dobies and might be ready to rescue a special needs Dobie, please keep reading. There's no rehoming fee.

This spayed girl is somewhere between 5 and 8 years old. She's had a hard life, first as a breeder and then 3 years as a back yard ONLY dog. Despite that, she loves people. Like many Dobies, she can stand with her head in your lap being petted for hours on end.

Here's what is good about her: she is calm, very attentive and affectionate to people, rides well in a car, walks well on or off leash, housebroken, doesn't chew, doesn't bark, doesn't pass gas, is crate trained, leaves the cat alone and gets along well with other calm dogs.

It's not easy to find her a home because she is blind. That only means that she walks and doesn't run. She can climb stairs, find the dog door, find her people, find her bed, and just plain does fine. It's not a problem at all unless you want her to run with you, which she can't. If you put a small noisemaker, like a cat collar with bells, on your leg or arm, she'll follow you faithfully off leash for miles.

Because she is blind, if too many dogs start making too much noise and bumping into her she gets scared and bites . She has never drawn blood, but they're real fights. She has to go to a home with no other dogs, or only dogs that will forgive her if she steps on them. Most dogs just growl when she gets too close, and that works fine. But if the dog snaps at her for getting too close, a dog fight may follow.

We will only let her go to a home that allows her to stay in the house and sleep in the same room as her people. She's been locked outside enough to last her whole life.

We are Reno Dobie rescuers. We can't keep her at home any longer because we have a dog who starts fights when the blind Dobie gets too close, so she is now in a local shelter being evaluated. She'll pass the evaluation.

She also drinks too much water, which means that her dog door has to be available 24/7, and that she is on daily inexpensive meds.

She has docked ears and tail. She is black, 88 pounds, all in all a very majestic looking dog. Her right eye is gone and sewed shut. She looks good just the same. No gray, but also no puppy bad habits.

RESCUED: GA, Fayette County: Clara the blind fluff-ball puppy needs a home or rescue!

Clara is being rescued and is going to a Blind Dog Rescue Alliance foster home.

**** URGENT! PLEASE CROSS-POST!! ***

FAYETTE County, GA: Hello, everyone! Please take a moment to look at little Clara's photos. Clara ist an adoroable, blind fluff-ball puppy (possibly a Shih Tzu mix??), who is in need of a wonderful foster or forever home. This little girl (who won't grow very large) was taken in by the Fayette County Humane Society in GA. She is currently in a temporary foster home, but they can't keep her there (see Clara's story below). Clara is scheduled to be spayed this week, and they would love to find a home or foster for her very quickly.

Clara is with one of our fosters but he is not able to keep her any longer because his Mother lives with him and she also is blind in one eye and very limited vision in the other eye. When our foster took her home and his Mother about this little girl she named her Clara. That is his Mother's name and she decided they had the same condition so should be named the same.
This little girl is a doll, very sweet and loving.

RESCUED!!.... Americus, GA: DUKE! Blind GSD mix URGENT

"Hi! My name is Duke. I am a German Shepherd x. My momma died and her family did not want me. My eye started looking funny to them a few weeks ago and they did not take me to the vet. I think I will be blind in it now. They surrendered me to animal control and I live at the Humane Society now. I like the people here a lot but I really miss my momma and I don't understand why I am here. I am a little confused.

I was attacked by a mean doggy a few days ago. He climbed into my kennel and bit me. I really want to go home. My new friends here cleaned up my paw and are taking great care of me."

The shelter is too full and we have to pull some pups to make room. We are trying very hard to find a rescue willing to take Duke. He is a fantastic boy. He is so gentle and precious! He was attacked by another dog last week but only has a small scratch on the face and his paw was bitten. He let us clean it up and shave his paw with no protest. He is such a good boy and deserves a shot at a good life.

Please CROSS POST. If you can help this guy please contact me.

RESCUED! Utah, Sandy: Blind Australian Shepherd puppy

To Whom It May Concern,

A friend of mine has a blind puppy. He is wanting to take it to a shelter and I don't have a place that I could bring the puppy into my home. I am afraid that if he takes it to a animal shelter, via the pound, that they will put the puppy to sleep. He is aprox.6 weeks old and a pure bred australian sheppard. Can you help this puppy. He is close to being 100% albino, but his eyes are blue. He is so adorable but needs a lot of attention. I have been bottle feeding him since he was four days old. He was the runt of the litter. I am afraid he might be deaf as well but I am not sure of this.

I really hate to see this little puppy be taken to an animal pound.

RESCUED! OH, Heath: VERY, VERY URGENT! White German Shepherd (GSD) at GAS POUND! Not much time left!

*** VERY, VERY URGENT!!! PLEASE CROSS-POST!! ***

HEATH, OH: This poor, beautiful boy is super urgent!! Some time ago, Chief lost his eye after being shot in the eye. He was then adopted six months ago, but the "owners" returned him to the GAS CHAMBER SHELTER, because he "sheds too much" and because he learned how to open the refrigerator.

Now, as an owner surrender, this smart, sweet boy probably doesn't have much time left. He is neutered, friendly and ready to go. He is listed as a Husky mix, but he appears to be a White GSD. He would make somebody a WONDERFUL pet. He is sweet and friendly, a great dog! Please don't let Chief's life end in the gas chamber.

"Who am I?" Meet Chief: he was shot in the eye when he was younger and lost it. But that didn't stop him he was adopted out about 6 months ago and was returned because he shed to much and could open the ref door and eat every thing he wanted. He is neutered and ready for his new FOREVER home this time around. Really great dog. Please help Chief now and give him the best chance!

RESCUED!!! NC - Wilson:ULTRA URGENT!! Senior Dog Needs Help NOW - Please rescue from Wilson County Animal Shelter

In memory and on behalf of an old dog that you may have had in your life, that lived a good life to a ripe old age and died knowing that he was loved by you and your family... I am sending out a last plee for a old dog. He is in the WILSON COUNTY ANIMAL SHELTER. He is in bad shape and needs immediate medical care. AND his time is limited!!! if you know what I mean...

When I called to check on him this morning, the lady said his eyes were oozy and matted shut. He may have been hit by a car and he is not putting any weight on his back leg which is swelling larger and larger by the day.

I know that we see dogs like this everyday... but there is something about him and his being an old man, that I could not just let him go without trying to see if he tugged at your heart as he did mine and you too felt moved to help him. I am hoping someone will foster him or financially sponsor him until we can get him on his feet, literally, and find him a forever home. He has to remain there until Wednesday I think to see if an owner claims him (fat chance!), and that's when his clock really starts ticking as they generally will not keep him around due to his problems.

If his medical situation is beyond help, PLEASE consider getting him out and taking him to a vet, just to have him euthanized in a peaceful way after a walk in the sun and a last good meal. Thank you on his behalf. Let's not let it end this way.
